Quick Update:

After much searching and hassle with fastener sourcing, I have the right 'stuff' to proceed with the riser extension blocks.

IMG_0596.JPG

The 3" studs that I'm using on the forward side of the riser blocks were the most difficult to find/get . . . For some reason the supplier shipped them to Maryland  o_O

The barb fittings were no picnic either - Seems like 3/4" NPT to 1" Barb is a scarcity.

I'll be at it today, trying to put it all together.

Mcmaster Carr is my go to source for items like that

The 'down elbows' look like they've had it, once I got them cleaned up. Looks like I should get a couple of new sets and inspect the Y pipes as well.  :unsure:šŸ˜›

The parts listing for my engines show the exhaust down elbows as being '44267T' . . . the the ones on the engine are '44267C' . . . not sure there is a difference. Visually, they look the same as far as I can tell.

I'm price shopping . . . GreatLakesSkipper has them for $50 ea. (Didn't GLS go belly up recently  )

Good thing you caught that. My old aluminum coupler parts from my original exhaust are hardly corroded at all (replaced them with the new center riser system 5 years ago) and the Y pipe still looks good, hopefully yours is too.
That's not a fun job to change....salt water never sleeps....

I got the blocks and risers on the port engine . . .

Most of the hoses are an inch or so short, because of the new fitting locations. So, I'm fabricating a few hoses of the new fittings.

The original coolant return lines were about an inch short and needed more of an 'S' bend. I am trying to fabricate custom hoses by setting their shape and baking them.

Tomorrow, I will move onto the the starboard engine . . . which I hope goes a bit faster than the port engine.

I borescoped the Y-Pipe from top and bottom, and the bottom part looks fine . . . not much salt/calcium and no signs of pitting. the top of the Y-Pipe where the flappers go is not great, but still serviceable.

Quick Update:

The 'Down Elbows' on the Starboard engine are in great shape, they look practically new. :D I wonder if they were replaced by a PO . . . but that would have been over 2 years ago . . . 'cuz the person I bought it from did not do any major maintenance as he owned the boat for only a few years.

Starboard engine is going much faster, but I'm going to be short of some hose clampos due to all of the re-engineering of the hose set-up.

Meant to say "over 12 years ago" in the previous post about the down elbows. 8 of those years in salt water.

Picture Time . . .

I got the riser extensions all assembled and the hoses connected, less a few clamps that I have on order.

The plumbing on the oil filter side of the engines is not as tight as it was before, thanks to the extra 3" of space.

.
The remote oil filter mount, electronics box and shift linkage all were able to rise up from their previous locations ( with a little bit of muscle) and are mounted to the stainless riser/elbows, as they were before.

Hopefully, I will have the 'down elbows' this week and can finish everyting up

Aahh Phoooey . . .

The down elbows need a 3-3/4" ID wet exhaust hose to couple them to the Y-pipe :rolleyes:šŸ˜’

4" ID is too big and 3-1/2" ID is too small (tight). I tried the 3-1/2" and it is a no-go. Looks like I got to try to get 3-3/4" (95mm) . . . sort of an odd size, but I think I can get some.

Not sure if a 3-1/2" (90mm) silicone would be an option, if it stretches. Right now I have the rigid Trident Hose 3-1/2" and it is not wanting to stretch at all. Perhaps silicone would be better/more flexible . . . and would 3-1/2" silicone exhaust tube be an option?

Any help/guidance is appreciated.

FWIW - the top opening of the 'down elbow' is 4" sized for a 4" ID tube and fits the standard Merc rubber coupler . . . the bottom opening of the down elbow is a wee bit smaller and oblong shaped. Since I raised the exhaust riser 3" . . . I essentially need a longer coupler at the bottom to connect to the Y-pipe . . . but the diameter/circumference is a bit less than a std 4"

Ayuh,..... Have ya tried squirtin' everything with Quicksilver Power Tune, just before ya try to assemble it,.....

That stuff will make rubber things fit in super tight situations,.....

Yes, heated up the tube and grease it . . . Still no-go. The tube is the reinforced with a spiral wire running through it.

I'm going to try to get a 3-3/4" tube . . . or I wonder if a silicone tube has more stretch & flex to it?

Your original tubes fit, so you just need something longer, correct?

Push come to shove could make a coupling

Yes, considering the cost, I decided for the 3"needed I'd just rely on a long 'tube' to couple the 2 sections of the exhaust system together.

Seems to be easier said than done.

I guess because raising up the elbows with spacers slightly changes the angles of how the down pipes match up to the Y pipe....
