Anyone here try to use one of those new fuel cans without a vent and that ridiculous "saftey" spout? Good lord, whats so safe about that? After spilling about an 1/8 of the fuel all over the engine it takes about 15 minutes for it to slurp and glug its way out of the can. About half way though the pour Im about ready to light the thing on fire and hurl it into the air. Watching that illiogcial pile of over-engineered plastic crap die in a firey inferno would be about the only satisfying use I have for it, lol.

Anyone find a way to remove the "saftey" aspect of the spout and make it funtional again?

You can either remove the spring from the safety portion or get the better style safety spout that has the thumb operated release rather than the push in spout.

I own 2 gas cans and they are both just before this safety can mess started. I will hang on to them for as long as I can. There has to be cans for pouring antifreeze or something else that doesn't need the safety features but is compatible with gas??

This style works fine and you can get them at Home depot for about $15

Those are the nightmare of which I speak.

Agree with ezmobee - I have one of these & while it's way better than the twist & retract thing, it's still horrible. What's supposed to be so safe about them? What you don't spill while it's sitting around, you spill trying to get into the tank!

Also, the safety mechanism is a royal pain to operate when you're already holding 30+ lbs of gas in some horribly awkward position & it's dribbling at some ridiculously slow speed.

Anyhow, I agree with the grumble on this

Talk about an idea backfiring! The initial idea behind these d@#n "safety cans" was to prevent gas from being spilled while re-fueling. Well, I have spilled more gas using these cans than I ever did using those "dangerous" old style gas cans...total. My frustration level with those dang things has reached the point to where I am willing to shell out the $$ for those old surplus Jerry cans.

Oooo, that style almost worse than the spring loaded type. Lift 40lb fuel can with right hand, pull switch with left hand, depress lever with right thumb, continue to hold heavy fuel can as it piddles out fuel by the teaspoon, lever breaks mid pour, ignite fuel can, run.

Who designed these things?

Check out race fuel applications. These are type of containers many of us use for our race bikes. Add the fill hose that has a valve in it and it becomes real easy.

That looks quite efficient. Where did you find em' for 20 beans? Even at $120 the VR cans listed above are better than an aneurysm from dealing with the saftey cans, lol.

I just ordered 3 of them from here http://5xracing.com/i-156179-vp-racing-fuel-jug.html $95 shipped to my house. Pricey for sure but worth it I think. I will enjoy ridding myself of a number of crappy and/or broken cans when these arrive.

I just unscrew the whole worthless spout and pour into a funnel, and that, too, is a PITA.

Look for old ones at yard sales with the small vent.

I am about to drill a small vent hole in mine, then plug with a wood screw. If it doesn't work, I can seal it.

Recalling the old cans (and the few I have) the vent caps were often lost, but "some folks" kept using them, perhaps plugged with tin foil, at the risk of spillage. That is probably why they "improved" them.

If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.

Nice, glad I could make a suggestion. Keep in mind the site I posted was the manufacturer's website. There are cheaper places to find them on the web. Look for motorcycle parts places, they're quite popular at the track.
