Re: Scam ?? "IBoats" email

Thanks for the unsolicited spam e-mail to join a social networking website. I felt so special to know I will receive your special gift of free shipping anywhere in the US especially when I live in Canada.

I am removing my e-mail to prevent any further solicitations, thank you.
It's not spam IMO. You are a member of this forum, and they sent you ONE email, letting you know about facebook. They are not harvesting your email and reselling it. I look at it as iboats doing me a favor, I'm a big boy and can decide whether or not I want to go somewhere, without getting paranoid, or angry about alleged spam.

Some of you are just ridiculous about petty stuff.

Re: Scam ?? "IBoats" email

I got a top 500 invite and think I got this because I joined the original Iboats fanpage on FB. I have all the security setting on and also I didn't use any personal information when I created my account over there. When I started gathering friends and family on my friend list, I had to let them know it was me reaching out to them.

Thanks Iboats for the new feed on FB!!!

I take offense at your characterization of my concerns and the concerns and opinions of others as "petty".

Done with this thread.

Re: Scam ?? "IBoats" email

I got invited as one of the top 3000 and I hardly post anything here, although I spend an exorbitant amount of time reading.
I try to speak only when I have something to say.

I do the same. Somebody out there knows just how much reading I do....

But that's what I get out of the iBoats site. I learn from the posts and on occasion post some comments. First Ammendment-like.

For those with privacy concerns, treat the invitation as spam. (It is good to hear from Admin5 that no info was sold or traded):)

I think it's great. I use Facebook as well as my wife. I can keep in touch with family and friends who are away, and I personally think that Iboats is one helluva site. And I like the new Iboats Facebook page. Keep up the good work.

Agreed. Not a scam, but definitely spam. iBoats sent me an unsolicited email asking me to join a different website. When I get that kind of spam crap I don't appreciate it at all. I had provided my email in order to receive updates about site outages, etc. and not get spammed.

I've changed my email address in my UserCP to something else.

Don't want it, don't need it, thanks anyway.

On the other hand, it caused me to go over and create a facebook account. I'm curious as to what all this social networking fuss is about.

Reminds me of the days of 2400 baud modems and dial up. Common wisdom was "why do we need speed? I'm happy with what we have."
Along with, "Whats wrong with analog TV, I'm happy with what we have."

Besides, gave me a chance to chat with my wife and daughter.

"OMG, I never thought I'd see you here Daddy!"

Invalid analogies. Instant messenger services and email were around long before FB and I use them all the time. Been using them for many, many years. Chat online with my daughter using webcam; email photos and videos to my friends and family all over the country many times a day. My daughter has her own blog as well. I'm a member of other forums with other specific interests as well as iBoats. Didn't have to sign up to FB in order to do use those comm channels and still don't. Checked out FB years ago and wasn't impressed. Still the same now.

Re: Scam ?? "IBoats" email

Gents, just go to your UserCP 'Edit Profile' page to edit you opt-in setting.

iboats Review Yes: iboats.com can keep me updated with boating news, technical tips, humor, preferred-customer-only discount coupons and specials for even more boating enjoyment and fun. We value your privacy. Yes No
Switch it to 'No' to opt-out. If iboats ignored that settings, then, well.. better hope no lawyers or people who can spell FCC were on the mailing. $500 per email really adds up. Also, Constant Contact requires all clients agree the mailing list they submit is a valid, opt-in set of addresses.

But don't get mad if you had that setting on 'Yes' and got a promotional mailing. That is what that setting is for.

Yeah, I was top 3000, too. Last time I was on here was Oct. 22. No, thanks.

Re: Scam ?? "IBoats" email

i think some of you are grossly over reacting. you want to know when there is a sale, at great prices. but when we offer another service, it becomes spam. rediculous in my opinion. you get the iboats review thru your email. being a member entitles you to notification of new and imho, better things. iboats is a help forum, and a social forum.

we have not compromised you privacy, in anyway. you are a person free to take advantage of facebook, or to ignore it. if you want, just click your junk mail.

I agree 100% TD. I don't get this at all. If I had to bet, I bet each person calling this spam, and each person with a hard on for FB are NOT computer literate.

A very famous man once said that, "You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you cannot please all of the people all of the time". .... Later on i read somewhere that someone had shot him.:(

OK, so I'm back despite swearing this thread off. I think this just about sums it up.

That is absolutely LUDICROUS.

As for clicking junk mail... sounds like a plan to me. ANYTHING I now get from iBoats I will consider spam.

I read the privacy policy and it doesn't say anything about spamming me to join another website.

No, what is ludicrous is you STILL harping on this, even though you were given the opt-out fix in this thread. It's user error on your part. If you are SOOO concerned and paranoid about your privacy, you'd think you'd read the user agreement when you became a member here, and you would have seen the opt out option.

But no, you will keep posting about the big evil empire known as Iboats HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Give me a break. You might want to snug down your tinfoil hat a bit! :D

Re: Scam ?? "IBoats" email

Hey Everyone,

This is Tanner Williams. I am the Social Media Mgr. here at iboats.com. I am new here and that is probably why some of you have been wondering "Who is this guy?!" I apoligize for not posting this earlier as I feel it could have helped clear things up. If you have noticed though, I have been the one who has been updating all the daily cartoons.

I want to let you know that the email is NOT A SCAM. Everything here is legit, and we are trying to push iboats and boating using social media resources. The reason for using Facebook is that it's the largest and seems to be most efficient source for Social Media. Iloveboating is exploding in popularity right now and is a great place for boaters to come and socialize. We felt that you (our forum users) would be very interested in this. That said, I know there are many of you who don't use Facebook, some who will never, and that is completely fine. I understand your concerns and reasons for not wanting to be a part of it. We just wanted to put it out there, that we have a page, and would like to share it with you. No hard feelings if you choose not to.

Anyways, if you still have questions, I have posted my email address on the email I sent out. I have responded to many and hope that my responses have cleared up some of this confusion. Again, Thank you all for your contributions to these forums. You have done an excellent job and hope that you have gained valuable information through this.
