Well, I must have been blacklisted by someone.
Been here 7.5 years, 12,700 posts, 440+ posts in the last six months, and no invite for me.

I appreciate the invite, but in the interest of preserving my ever dwindling right to privacy, I avoid Facebook like the plague. I'm no paranoid Dale Gribble, but computers and technology have done more to erode that right than anything ever conceived.

I got invited as one of the top 3000 and I hardly post anything here, although I spend an exorbitant amount of time reading.
I try to speak only when I have something to say.

roscoe, don't think your alone. I haven't either but don't do facebook anyway. This site is not set up for people that try to help others with factual info. In my opinion it caters to the talkers and padders which is why I seldom post any more.

I agree, if you have no clue what you are doing then by all means stay off of Facebook. It is no more invasive than Iboats here, or any other website.
They give you extensive privacy settings, which I use, and use to my advantage.
My family is spread all over, and we talk every day because of facebook.

I find the only people that fear facebook, are typically not very computer savvy, and that's understandable.

My wife is very active on Facebook, but it's not for me. I know that there are privacy settings you can use, but I'm just not the type to chit chat if I have nothing substantive to say, and a lot of the stuff my wife shows me on Facebook that people post is just fluff.

She enjoys it and that's good. I don't fear it, I just have no interest in it and was speaking generally about privacy. I should have said that to me, my privacy is more precious than electronic social networking.

My privacy is more precious than electronic social networking too. Sorry your wife and her friends post fluff, not everyone is like that.

I have all the apps and games turned off. I use it to store hundreds of pics for free, and to keep in touch with friends and family, no fluff there.

Re: Scam ?? "IBoats" email

I am very happy to report that your fears are completely unfounded. I personally oversaw this effort. This is a legitimate outreach to our most active forum contributors. We SOLD NO INFO TO ANYONE!!!! Come on! Are we really that bad? You should know iboats by now. We care about our customers and forums members! :)

Here is how we did it: We chose the 500, 3000 and 6000 most active forums members in the last 6 months and sent that email to them. We used a service called Constant Contact to send the emails. They changed the URL for tracking purposes so we can see how many ended up opening the email and clicking over. There were no virus's associated with that link. sorry. :)

Why did iboats do this? We are the undisputed king of the boating community because of all of you. We need to stay that way. We can't ignore the other social media sites out there so we are also reaching out to the millions of boaters there. We hope that they will like us and come join all of you here in the forums and the other great places we are working to create for you all that will be launched in the upcoming weeks and months. Just call it progress. You have my sincere apology for doing something that caused you concern. As a peace offering here is an iboats discount code for free shipping at iboats for most things over $95 this next week: SHIP4FREE Hey, we are a store after all. Can't blame me for taking an opportunity at some shameless self promotion. ;) Have a great weekend.

I personally was thrilled, honored I guess to get the email and be in the top tier of contributors.
I dont really see how this spooked anyone??? Constant Contact is a valid, reputable service that works will for many top level corporations. And understand, this website we all love is a corporation. There is a bottom line and costs to cover. We enjoy the forums for free, at iboats expense and I appreciate it.
I saw this is iboats growing, and more importantly asking my thoughts towards that goal.
And nice slide in of the free shipping promo Admin! Just in case anyone doesnt check their emails or hasn't signed up for the emailed updates, they should.

I was top 3k, but like a lot of others i don't do the facebook thing. I did facebook for a while and got sick of it. However i do think facebook is a great way for Iboats to reach new people! I am excited to see the new "top secret iboats"!

Thanks for that explanation:
For those that are not familiar with using face book . . . so you don't get into trouble with privacy issues . . .

Don't sign up with your current Facebook user ID. Create a new one just for the new iboats Facebook group.

Don't put in your DOB in your profile. Or any other personal info.

Here is a good link to read though on how to protect yourself regarding privacy issues:

Thanks for the unsolicited spam e-mail to join a social networking website. I felt so special to know I will receive your special gift of free shipping anywhere in the US especially when I live in Canada.

I am removing my e-mail to prevent any further solicitations, thank you.

Why in the world would you ever create ANOTHER facebook account just for the iboats facebook groups??? Makes no sense at all. Hell, if you are paranoid about privacy issues, you just double your cause for concern.:confused::confused:
