You should get help now that you have posted the model number, Bock.

I can tell you that the engine was made by West Bend/Chrysler.

Good luck. :)

50:1 and any parts that would be available would have to be through a Mercury dealer or aftermarket.

K thanks. When push comes to shove i must say I have no manuals for this engine. It is my uncles and he did not get a manual for it when he bought it either. West Bend/chrysler??? Yeah I see where u got the good luck idea... this may take a little longer than i thought.

K........

SO what is the year of make.. How do i get a schematics, repair manual for this engine? My ol 56 EVI was not this hard to get some research on.

I know you said that the Engine was made by West Bend/chrysler. was that just the engine and not all the other stuff like shaft- propeller?

I am no where near a boat mechanic or engine mechanic. Planning to start at Daytona at Wyotech in June though to be one. Just a good ol West Virginia hillbilly for now..

Looks like it is a 65 6hp by Chrysler for MW SK.

I know at some point sears were also made by Chrysler but I am not sure when. Another thing to keep in mind is I think Chrysler marine was bought by Force at some point. I am not real familiar with the Chrysler line so I can't really help beyond that for parts.

West Bend Aluminum Co (yes the pots and pans co.) Built motors for Sears back in the late 1940s - Early '50s. Then they sold the co to Chrysler (yes the Dodge co) in 1965. Chrysler was aready making inboard engines at the time. Then Chrysler was about to go bankrupt, so the government bailed them out (the first chrysler gov't bailout). Part of the deal was they had to get out of the outboard business. So they sold that off to U.S. Marine, maker of Bayliner boats. USM renamed the motors "Force". Then the Force brand was sold to Mercury. And Mercury closed the doors on it.

Meanwhile while all this was going on, Gale, part of OMC, was making motors for Wards. 1963 was the last year of Gale production. So Wards found a new source of motors---Chrysler. And Clinton, but that's another tale.

Parts are out there, but some are hard to find. The starter pinion is especailly hard to get. iboats sells a few parts like impellers.

By the VWB serial # it sounds like a Chrysler made Sea King. Some good folks on here got me pointed in the right direction so now I would like to help. There is a dealer here in MO that should have anything you need. His e-mail is: franzmarine@aol.com He deals in Chrysler built Sea King parts. The fuel mix on my 9.6 Sea King is 50:1 By the chart I found on line your motor is a 1965 6hp 2 cylinder Chrysler built Sea King. Here is the web site to the page of the chart I found. http://www.discount-marine-parts.com/ob_sea_king_4.html I hope this helps. God Bless. Dave

Down to identification of West Bend/Chrysler. Correct me if i am wrong but in 65 all they built was the model 650 in the 6 hp right? Thats the only one i could find. That was on the West Bend by hp. Showed none made by year.
If that is the case.. where can I get parts and manual? thanks guys

My Uncle says he might just do that and get holt of him. He really wants to know for sure if that thing is a 50/1 mix. Hes a little afraid to try that. Says he will try a 24/1 mix. If he does a 24/1 mix, will it hurt it any. He Just replaced plugs and wires too. Let me Know asap Boss. Gonna hit the lake in a few days. We need it.:D

There is no doubt it is a 50:1 mix. If he wants to run 24:1 let him...but, he will wind up with stuck rings.

how do you ask a question

Go to the forum where you want to put the question, and click the Create New Post at the top of the list of posts. Then, ask your question in the new post. Be sure to give all the information you have about your outboard, like model number, and ask your question.
