Re: Sea King Montgomery Ward? Need some help...
West Bend Aluminum Co (yes the pots and pans co.) Built motors for Sears back in the late 1940s - Early '50s. Then they sold the co to Chrysler (yes the Dodge co) in 1965. Chrysler was aready making inboard engines at the time. Then Chrysler was about to go bankrupt, so the government bailed them out (the first chrysler gov't bailout). Part of the deal was they had to get out of the outboard business. So they sold that off to U.S. Marine, maker of Bayliner boats. USM renamed the motors "Force". Then the Force brand was sold to Mercury. And Mercury closed the doors on it.
Meanwhile while all this was going on, Gale, part of OMC, was making motors for Wards. 1963 was the last year of Gale production. So Wards found a new source of motors---Chrysler. And Clinton, but that's another tale.
Parts are out there, but some are hard to find. The starter pinion is especailly hard to get. iboats sells a few parts like impellers.
