I dont think the new 175 has insulation. It is very loud with the 4 banger and according to reports the flame arrestor hits the top of the engine cover. The Glastron was load with the 4 also.

Mike_M2 <br /><br />You are correct about Bayliners holding their value as well as others from 23ft and larger. But for the size boat that is being discussed, Bayliner Doesn't hold a candle to SeaRay, and Maxum's are not much better, they are WAY underpowered. The ONLY good thing that has happen to Bayliner and Maxum is that they can't put Force outboards on them anymore, Thank GOD that line was dropped at last. Those motors were a P.O.S. when the name was Chrysler, changing the name to Force didn't help any either.<br /><br />The new Glastrons are nice boats. If at all possible, don't settle for anything less than a 4.3 in a 17 or 18ft boat. 19ft, get it with a V-8. Just because the boat has that much power, doesn't mean you have to use it, but I guarrentee (Spelling??), the first time you need that power, you'll be soo glad it's there for you and soo pissed if it's not there.<br /><br />NEVER SETTLE FOR LESS THEN THE MAX HP FOR ANY BOAT.<br /><br />Craig

"Another consideration is warranty. While they look similar, at closer look, the lifetime warranty on bayliner is for the hull only, and the searay is on the hull AND deck."<br /><br />Read thier warranty, it covers floorboards, stringers and hull.<br /><br />Hey, i'm not saying a Bayliner is a Searay. A Chevy isn't a Lexus either, but lots of people prefer a Chevy because it represents a good value. I don't own a Bayliner, but i hate seeing stuff get blown out of proportion like it does with this brandname. The truth is a new Bayliner will do the job it's intended to do with little grief while doing it. Plus it will do it for thousands less, can't argue with that, right? ;) <br /><br />Here's the values from nadaguides...<br /><br />year avg. value % of an 03<br /><br />Bay 175<br /><br />2003 8010 <br />1998 7180 .89<br />1995 5100 .63<br />SR 175<br />2003 13810 <br />1998 10710 .71<br />1995 5720 .41<br /><br />Wow, those Bayliner numbers are much higher than Sea Ray. So, why doesn't a Bay hold value like a SR? Because they don't cost as much to begin with. Also, there aren't any option motors in either of these boats, they both have the exact same powerplant, thats all.

I agree with that oppinion on Bayliners, you get what you pay for and they seem to be a pretty good deal.

To answer your original question---Absolute NOOOOOOO BRAINER.Chose the Searay!!!!!!I have owned both. The quality, the weight, the fit and finish, the look, the resale value, the reputation, the ease of resale and most of all the ownership experience of enjoying a better boat. There are many more reasons but I dont think you need to hear them.Charlie

Oh, 'eh CHARLIE!?<br /><br />After 12 seasons of not-a-worry with my SeaRay/ Mercury combo I must agree.<br /><br />Alone the price/weight ratio tells. Everyone who drilled a hole for an instrument in a SeaRay and did the same in a Bliner has seen it. <br /><br />New Bliners may not be as bad as they used to, but still. A well known brand & quality takes the risc out. So, if you can afford it up front, it will come back so sweet along the way.

Re: sea ray 176 vs bayliner 175

Its like an article I read about car buying. It is much better to buy a $30,000 lower level BMW than it is to buy a $30,000 higher level GM. A person should always try to buy as nice a quality item from a well reputed company (not saying GM is bad-its an example). Yeah, the Bayliner is vastly improved, but it has its own name stigma to overcome. Searay has no stigma to overcome. A bottom of the barrel Searay will always be better than a Bayliner, no way around that unless Bayliner steps up once and for all. At the same token, someone has to make cheap boats for the masses, so I guess Bayliner gets to keep the job...

Ummm...the latches, etc on my Trophy are stainless, through bolted, bedded with backing plates and the wiring is all in looms. Guess it's been a very long time since you've looked at a Bayliner...if ever.

I looked at the 180 Capri (OB) and 185 Capri (I/O) Bayliners at the boat show. They seemed like a good deal for the price. The Seaswirl Sport Boats had very poor fit and finish.

Re: sea ray 176 vs bayliner 175

Why is it that whenenver Bayliner's quality comes into a conversation it get's heated? :) <br /><br />No, really. My first boat was a 1988 Bayliner 2655 and I knew what I was getting into.....a lot of boat for the money. That's what you get when you buy a Bayliner and there's nothing wrong with that. I was very happy with my boat and I wouldn't hesitate to look at a Bayliner again.<br /><br />Is Sea Ray known as a higher quality boat? Yes. Does that mean that you should go run to the Sea Ray? No. I say go with the boat that fits your family's needs and wants the best that's within your budget.<br /><br />Good luck.<br /><br />Jeremy

Re: sea ray 176 vs bayliner 175

I have to say, I am suprised about all of the negitive feedback on the Bayliners. I own a 1985 2550Ciera, and I love it. I do agree with every one that says the searay is a better boat, in fact that might end up being my next boat, or maby a Cruisers I like them a little more than the searay. My father in-law owns a Searay 370 sundancer and it is absolutly beautiful, but he paid well over 200K for his boat and I gave 12K for my bayliner. The fact of the matter is, I have just as much fun boating as my father in-law does on his 200K boat. Buy what you can afford if you enjoy boating, I'd rather be on my bayliner than my couch.

Re: sea ray 176 vs bayliner 175

I have a 2003 Glastron 195sx and Contrary to what I've read on this thread, I couldnt' be happier. I paid 16,500 for it. It has a 4.3 volvo and came with a trailer. The Warranty is excellent. I drove a new bayliner, VIP, and Searay and I'll tell you what. The VEC hull design of the Glastron was the best I found in that class. It got on plane in NO TIME at all and handled like a dream. It may not have all the bells and whistles on it, but it has everything a new boater needs in terms of POWER and ease of handling and use. A GREAT first boat IMO.

Re: sea ray 176 vs bayliner 175

I own a mid 90's Sea Ray sportboat and am not overly impressed with the quality...don't buy a boat for the name, buy one you like and see quality in...not just because it costs more some of the issues with how they built the boat amaze me...ie unsealed limber holes that are sitting right where the first inches of water collect from the deck drains...crummy,brittle gelcoat...etc<br /><br />maybe they have gotten better, but my advice again is don't rely on a name for quality. (unless it's a grady)<br /><br />In all fairness I have looked at the new offering of the same boat and it seems that they have improved the design.<br /><br />Just because a boat is "wood free" doesn't mean its indestructable either...

Re: sea ray 176 vs bayliner 175

Take a look at the Glastron 175 with a V6 for watersports.<br /><br />I spend I whole weekend bombing around a small lake in NH last summer on one of those, I drove pretty much the hole him pulling my buddys on wakeboards and tubes ect, the V6 offtered plenty of power, I pulled three people on skies and top end was near 40mph. I was empressed with the proformance. I didn't like all the plasic on the dash on the stupid looken glove box, the screws on the frame of the windsheald kept coming loose, too.<br /><br />Over all, we ran my buddys dad's boat real hard that weekend, I was empressed with the power the V6 had and the fit and finish where much better then any Bayliner. I know know about the seerays but the Glastrons are much better boats then the bayliners are.

Re: sea ray 176 vs bayliner 175

Have a '96 Bayliner 1750 with 3.0 merc. Had since day one and all has been great. Now going to try Glastron 22 footer. Maybe it is an economy budget boat, but it never let me down when I used it. Trade in time and I did 90% of the maintenance myself. Sent it to local mechanic (was a big time marina mechanic but on his own for 3 years) to get the lower unit examined and impeller replaced. He was impressed with the shape of the old impeller. Time to trade up. Good luck and do not be afraid of Bayliner. Don't pay through the nose for fancy over functionality.
