Re: shift spool replacement

it opened BT. But is that the right manual for a 1978? In the contents I didn't see my outdrive model. I have an mc-1. Or are they all fairly similar?

Should work just fine. The MC1,R,MR,Alpha are very close. water pump base is different on the mc1, preload pin and no preload pin have differences

ok, thank you very much! I guess I will start by checking that shift shaft play and take it from there.

Just for reference, how should the racheting tension feel that I was referring to? Should it take some amount of force to get the prop to rachet, or should it coast a little?

Re: shift spool replacement

Needs a bit of force to turn. You should not be able to 'flick' the prop over the ramps...
