midsize and silvertip you are probably right. When it gets above 30 degrees I will take off the extension cord wire that they spliced to it with about a 1/2 roll of electrical tape and let you know. Silvertip, actually the key is toward the stern and this connector comes in from the front side of the control box.
I had that same remote, the pigtail connector drops out of the box with a shield over the male pins. This is definitely a tach wiring harness.
So fun messing with other people's "rigging!" You guys should have seen the battery cable on my new (to me) boat. This is a scooter with no sides, mind you, and the guy had spliced the cable in an above deck conduit and taped it all up with duct tape. Nice and wet when I tore into to figure out what he had done. Looked like a surefire way for me to be stuck somewhere with a grounded out electrical system. Needless to say, it's a continuous run from engine to battery now!
