Dear Skybus Customer:

We regret to inform you that Skybus Airlines will cease all operations effective 12:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5. As a result, your Skybus flight has been cancelled.

Skybus will not be processing refunds directly. To arrange for a refund on your reservation, please contact your credit card company directly. If you purchased flight insurance for your reservation, please refer to your insurance confirmation from AIG for information on filing a claim.

Skybus struggled to overcome the combination of rising jet fuel costs and a slowing economic environment. These two issues proved to be insurmountable for a new carrier.

We deeply regret the impact this decision will have on our customers, as well as our employees and their families, vendors, suppliers, airport officials and others in the cities in which we have operated. Our financial condition is such that our Board of Directors felt it had no choice but to cease operations.

Not only will you see airlines falling apart, but you will see a lot of trucking compaines going under also. Eventually, everyone will realize how important diesel, JP-4 & 5, and heating oil effects everyone. This is just the beginning of things to come if the price doesn't come down. Get use to it and get ready to pay more for everything. Everything around us got there by diesel at one time.(except for the stuff that was made and constructed during the steam revolution).

The price of gas directly effects our budget, it is the indirect effects of diesel that is going to cost us more. Food has to be moved fast, therefore it effects us faster. Wait until Christmas when everyone will pay more for their gifts due to the transportation/distribution fees. Large companies/factories will even have harder obstacles to conquer to compete with the foreign market. Its bad enough now the way competetion is and this is something that can and maybe will bring our country to our knees.

If you was around in the 70's, you know what bare grocery shelves are.

Its sad when I hear that we have access to hundreds of billions of barrels of oil under our own feet and not able to use it.

Reminds me about hearing how people who die of dehydration in the desert and still have water in their canteen. I feel that is about the way it is with our oil. We are dying from lack of oil, but have plenty available.

I still say it is a way the east can put the squeeze on America and they know it.

All we would have to do is to announce our intent to excercise our God ordained rights to drill for oil in Anwar and the Gulf of Mexico and the speculative bubble that is $100 bbl of oil would burst.

Just my $.02

I hate current fuel prices as much as anyone else but the simple fact of the matter is that we should have developed alternative energy sources a long time ago. We can drill in ANWAR, the Gulf or any place else, and the long term problem won't be solved.

What we really need to do is remove our dependance on oil as a fuel and as a source of material for chemicals, plastics, etc. When that happens, OPEC can change its name to "WTHAWGTDNTTOTWHTSIS" .... "What The Heck Are We Going To Do Now That The Only Thing We Have To Sell Is Sand."

We're not dying from it. We'll never die from lack of oil. However, we could die from the kinds of ecological disaster caused by drilling in the wrong place.

Right now, our oil is pretty cheap compared to other countries. Our government subsidizes it pretty heavily. Also, seeing how fond our oil companies are of lining their pockets, I don't imagine drilling in new places is going to ease anyone's wallet.

There's plenty of oil. It just isn't cheap.

.... Our government subsidizes it pretty heavily..... .

Please show me some cold hard evidence of that? You are mixing that up with production of politically correct ethanol, a fuel source that would fall flat on it's face without the subsidies.

The current price of oil per barrel is not reflective of it's real market value, based on exploration and production costs. It is simply a speculative bubble created, in large part, by the saber rattling of the Iranians and the Venezuelans.

Again, regardless of what they think in MLKing County, if we made clear our intent to drill for our own oil, the barrel price of oil would likely drop below $70.

Our fuel is less expensive by far than that in Europe. While technically it may not be a "subsidy," it comes out the same. We don't tax fuels enough to pay for road maintenance, which in my opinion is something we should do. It's a pretty equitable tax. We cut tax breaks to fuel refiners and marketers, and the result is that our fuel costs less than it would if it were taxed like other commodities.

As to our intent to drill for oil, I'm not sure what your point is. When oil from the US can be produced less expensively than oil purchased from OPEC or Venezuela, you bet we'll drill for it. You sound as though you think there's some kind of conspiracy going on. I'm pretty sure that if we announced our intent to drill, OPEC and Venezuela would say "Knock yourselves out."
