just got done cutting up two boats. now I only have 5 more to go before my grandfather will be happy haha.

two circular saws and a sawzall. I think we went through 3 circular saw blades and 6 sawzall blades. probably got close to burning up the sawzall front bearings too haha.

went pretty good for the most part. at the end we switched up to this random circular saw blade I found in the shop while looking for a face mask and it cut through the boats like butter. we spent 2.5 hours cutting around and were about 60% done. put that blade in and in 30 minutes the boats were completely in pieces haha. couldnt believe it. I have to figure out what kind of evil blade that thing is.

cut through one of the power cords too (oops )

but man, I feel like I've been working out all day wow. wish I could have gotten a pic after we were done but didnt think about it. just imagine two boats in a big pile with two debris fields to the left of them where they were flipped upside down to cut the hull bottoms. and yeah, they were toast. the fiberglass in the one boat was actually paper thin where it had been eaten up by the debris breaking down.

both of my thumbs hurt from the sawzall vibrations too and even though I was covered up pretty good. I still got eat up a little by fiberglass

edit: got my mom to snap a pic for me.
oh and if you're wondering...three of the other boats are in the background a little to the left. cant see them? yeah, its gonna suck that much pulling them out of the woods...

I have a black and decker pirana blade for my circular saw they're under $10 and I haven't found anything to stop it. Did my last boat (19') in about 2 hours with it and a demo blade in my sawzall.

I have heard of using a chainsaw to cut out a transom before, could it be used to cut up a boat? I would think that it would be much faster.

A good sawsall and demo blades works great for me.
I have found that the make of the boat and the half jacked repairs two or in one case three layers of makeshift deck with 2x6 stringer reinforcement was a real treat.

BUY a FULL face mask with the rubber seals all around. Use to be about 25 bucks at H D. Save you Lungs.

Best tool I've found for it.

I know thats basically a high high speed spinning wheel of carbide death but I seriously tried a couple of those blades on some of the aluminum hull of the first boat and all it did was clog the blade and throw molten aluminum at my face. was not a happy camper haha

We use a carbide tipped wood blade. Still need to check the blade for heating & melting. Can not complain too much. Considering the nasty stuff we feed it. :D

I prefer to drill a buncha holes in the hull first. Then use a sawsall with a carbide blade to connect the dots. Helps if'n ya tenderize the hull by smashing it into a channel marker 'forehand ...

Bet Jasoutside posts here in a few hours when he wakes up! He loves braggin' about those two 'glassers he put to the knife.
I haven't chopped up a boat (yet) but I have picked up a few upright grand pianos and organs that were too far gone to refurb and had a party in the backyard with some friends and a pickaxe, sledgehammer, and axe! More fun than itching for a week!

Winner is right about the ITCH from some of the old NASTY fibers they use.

You can buy cheap OSHA white paper coveralls at joints like Home Depot very cheap. Use them & trash immeaditly.

NEVER NEVER wash clothes used as protection from Glass. You just put it on all the other clothes in the washer. Yeah yeah. Eventually it is maybe reduced in the clothes.

I just finished doing a glass deck boat. Used a sawsall with deno blade and a big axe. They worked great for me. On aluminum I've had good luck with a circlur saw with an old blade put on backwards. It will cut the aluminum without plugging up the teeth. Try it, you might be suprised. On steel I use a cutoff blade and just go slow an let it eat, an throw sparks. Make sure you have a fire extinguisher close by and wear safty glasses along with a dust mask. If all else fails set it out buy the curb with a maul and sign for .50 cents let any one that wants to take a few swings at it go for it. You might make extra money that way also as kids love to destroy things .
Good Luck with your wrecking.

I've tried a sawzall, circular saw and a chainsaw (these dull kinda fast) but have found that the best tool for the job is a grinder with a thin cutting wheel. Better yet would be a 7" grinder. And better yet would be the one Bubba has! THAT would make quick work of the job!

To get rid of my "trash" I just put medium size chunks out with the weekly pickup. My local land fill will also accept one free truck load per month which is convenient.

What will you do if one of the kids gets injured while swinging a maul at your boat on your property ???
