You having the open warm winter we are up north? Hit 50 in Spokane a couple days ago, and no snow. Altho we had 20 inches in the middle of Nov. So far it's only got into the single digits a couple nights, and no hyphenated numbers yet. Hope I'm not jinxing us.
We woke up to a 1/4" of snow once this December. Otherwise yes, it has been quite mild this winter. Cooler today though.

Yea, up here it's mostly highs in the upper thirties and lows in the lower twenties for the next 10 days. Too cold to unwrap and work on boat, and too warm for winter to bring snow for next years runoff. Guess I should start some honey dos for the boss, might give me some extra time next summer that way. Oh Happy New Year. I'm being dragged to a party way past my bedtime.

I don't think that getting those honey dos for the boss taken care of anytime soon will help get you ahead for the summer...If its anything like around here, the boss is generating a new list along with adding to it, everything you did not finish this winter. Good luch catching up:D Happy new year to you as well.

Nothing done on the boat thus far. The family has all come down with a cold:(

Hope they get better soon. Tough with little ones down. And you're probably right with the honeydos. Started on the trailer, needs to be rewired but the brake lines are sound and clean. I'm going to need to extend my tongue a bit, and straighten a fender. Those are things I can do outside in this weather. Turned cold and sunny here today. 29 degrees now. predicting 40 on Wednesday with rain, and had 40 a couple days ago with rain. Wished it would make up its mind winter or spring.

I finally got my GPS/Fishfinder installed and mounted.

I don't have a picture of the mounting of my transducer yet. I'll get one posted. I used a transducer mounting board then screwed my transducer into the board. Let's just say I wish I didn't have to drill any more holes in my boat, but I have to install a bilge pump exit and through-hull fitting. I don't know how many times I have looked at the starboard side of the boat, just coming to terms that just looking at it won't get it done.

Here are the pics of the transom with the tranducer board, and transducer mounted to it. I don't have the clips screwed down yet. I'll get that done tomorrow. I didn't have the correct length SS screws for the clips.

Took the boat out a few days ago with the family. First 2012 trip to the reservoir. Great weather for March (65 degrees). Fish finder/GPS worked great. I have some noise issues that are showing up, but I have since made some changes that I hope improve that situation. I also have a nice rooster tail from the transducer. I'll try and raise it up a little to see if that helps. No leaks from the transucer mounting. Got the throttle up to 4600 rpm at 34 mph. There is still plenty of throttle left. Thinking it will do about 40-43mph. I am not one for speed, so I don't know if it will ever see full throttle to find out how fast it will go. We just enjoy being out on the water. Finished wiring up the electric trolling motor (Transom mount). The transom mount is what I have from our 12' Starcraft, and should do the job for now. I am looking for a cheap way to disconnect power to the trolling motor without removing the leads from the deep cycle battery every time.

Few things to do...
Finish up the bilge pump installation.
Figure out power cut off to the trolling motor. (Quick disconnects, perko switch...)
There has been some talk around here about replacing the floor next winter:eek: We will see. The wood under the splashwell is pretty soft, and starting to bubble and flake away.

Now that's crazy talk. Mine if pretty much WOT 80% of the time :D

BassPro (and probably here) has both male and female connectors for trolling motor wiring.

Had a great day fishing yesterday...Did some shore fishing. My 3 yr old caught her first trout 15". She was so excited! Boating, fishing, and camping bring back so many memories. I'm glad my family is experiencing the same.

Sounds like you're going to get some good weather down there. I heard they're predicting 70's. We've had highs in the 30's and snow everyday for a week. 7 inches on Wednesday. Nice fish by the way, for anyone to catch, especially nice for a first one. Bet she was excited. As for your power leads, NAPA, or several other places have plugs for $16 for both ends. I just bought some for hooking up a winch on my 4 wheeler. You could also for about $20 get a disconnect switch like is on a lot of heavy equipment and when you turn the switch it disconnects the ground wire. As for full throttle that's when she'll drink the fuel. I get best mileage (if that's what it should be called in a boat) at about 2/3 throttle. In my crestliner I loose about 2 or 3 mph on full throttle and travel about an hour longer as I remember on a 6 gal can. I've had a 30 gal tank in for 3 years. On my Starcraft inboard. I'll use about 5 gal or a bit more less in 4 hours, and lose about the same 3 mph. also at about 2/3 throttle. You can find the sweet spot by experimenting. Not sure of the answer to the transducer. They are supposed to be under the water some, without finding the paper work on mine I'm not sure how much, but I think an inch or so to work right.

The transducer centerline in the horizontal position should be even with the bottom of the hull. Looks about right where you have it and where it is. You may triming the boat a bit will solve the high wake off the transducer. great place for a boater to live ,lots of options to choose from.

Thanks for checking in guys...and for all the input. I'm always happy to learn what others have done or tried.

You are getting more snow than I thought you would this time of year. Good weather is here for today anyway. 70 but lots of wind to go with it. All the wind we have had lately has made it difficult to get out in the boat. supposed to have more rain, cooler weather, and wind the rest of the week. I was recently told that somewhere in the 3600-4100 rpm range is where the sweet spot for the best mileage. Our last trip out seemed to have gone through more gas as we had been running it a bit higher rpm. I think I will be looking at a quick disconnect plug for the TM so I can easily remove the TM from the boat and use it on our 12' as well.

We have not spent a lot of time in the boat since the 85hp has been mounted. I'll play some with the trim and see what happens before I start changing the height of the transducer.

Re: Sold my '67 Caravel for a 16' '75 Starcraft SS

We had a good weekend for a change. This time of year the snow won't last, but we still have a couple inches on the ground. I find I can sort of feel the sweet spot. Where you quit gaining speed quite as fast. After that the carb just sort of opens up and aborbs the extra fuel. My inboard has a 4 barrel and I can hear when the second two open up. Maybe in an emergency that 2 or 3 mph would be worth while. In a month or so the weather ought to decide to be nice to us. Then you got to help your daughter catch another one. Good luck

Well Craigslist has struck the pocket book once again. Came accross a 1989 15HP Johnson with a mirrocraft 12' boat and trailer for just over $700. The PO then pitched in a brand new $200 seat in the box with an 6-8" pedestal. I can probably sell the boat and trailer for about 4-500. Keep the johnson and the seat for the SC.

Nice score! I just picked up an '85 Evinrude 15HP (for $600) and it hauls butt on my dad's 14'.
