Re: solenoid and spark plugs

I don't think its critical either...but...I did find a small section in the Clymer manual that specifically mentioned the drain line between the air intake and the head (by the carbs) and that if its not functioning, the engine can idle poorly and die at low speed due to the mix getting too saturated, etc. It really sounds like the problem I was having while out on the water and it starting to die while idling. I think between that hose and the exhaust tube seal, I was smothering the engine with too much gas and not enough fresh air.

Now the next part...the electrical... It was fine before, so I just need to find out what happened between the last time it was in the water and now. I'll be breaking out the multi meter tonight and testing.

There is another line that wraps around the engine. That line drains the intake manifold. The line we've been talking about drains the airbox.

The exhaust tube is a big deal. Many times an engine with a bad exhaust bellows will run with the cowling off, but not with it on. It is much more of an issue than the airbox drain.

Your electrical problem is very repairable. You should be able to tell excactly what is wrong using the troubleshooting procedure we've discussed.

I agree about the exhaust tube seal. I've got that on order now and I'm waiting for the parts. I also ordered the "lifting eye" as well in order to raise the engine without removing all the components.

Hopefully lifting out the engine won't be too bad. I've installed a pulley eye hook on the top of my loft in the garage to use with ropes. If I get stuck on how to raise the engine, I'll post a new thread.

I think the electrical will be ok once I can follow your steps, euros, and the trouble shooting parts of the manuals.

sidebar note: We're finally getting rain right now. Its been 2 wks since we've had any...(drought conditions around here in Wisc with 90's and dry for most of the summer).
