Re: Spain
The leaders of Spain took a very strong and courageous stand with the coalition in Irag. They did not ever have the backing of the Spanish people. Unfortunately, this is a big win for terrorism.

Because this thread was started by one of our Australian brothers, it might be worth stressing that Australia has been with us since 9/11--on the ground, in special ops, both in Afghanistan and Irag.

PM John Howard has done this rather courageously, in my view, because his support has not been wholehearted among Australians. And, they have paid a price too with the Bali bombing that killed so many of their countrymen. The Bali bombings also made a casualty of the Australian belief that "Everybody likes us, we're Australian."

Another coalition partner, Italy, has a majority of their citizens in opposition to involvment in Iraq.

I hope that no more of the coalition members back away from their responsibilities. I have been glad they are with us.

Free countries that have backed away from the fight against despotism, terror and evil will not save themselves. Only recently bombing attempts were broken up in France.

Someday we will win this fight, but only if we as a nation ourselves keep on track and not back away from our own responsibilies. The enemies who would do us harm will exploit any weakness we show in our resolve, and quite frankly, don't give a darn whether Bush or Kerry wins the election. They will hate us all the same.

Having travelled fairly extensively in the Islamic world, I can only say that freedoms great hope lies within those countries and peoples themselves. The desire of the majority to raise their children to a better life and to shake loose the sub-culture of destruction that has taken root.
