I wanna hear about the "Busted nose".

Confession. I have never owned a roll of Duct Tape. I use Gaff Tape for those kind of duties. Sure, cost a bit more but damn good tape.

Re: Speaking of duct tape...

I made a temporary key holder for my drill chuck, twelve years ago.

Not good for seat repairs, gets sticky stuff all over your butt.

Used it to tape a large flashlight to hood of car after hitting deer and busting out headlights. Got us back to camp.

Patched holes in friends "new" tent, at 3am.

Taped up sprained ankle (over the sock).

Gaff tape??? Are you talking about the gaffing tape used by gaffers? Like in a tv or photo studio? Black, paper based, not very sticky, really only sticks to itself? (cohesive bonding, as opposed to adhesive bonding)? I wouldn't tape the step kids to the flagpole with that, it won't hold up in the rain.

Re: Speaking of duct tape...

I just saw my wife use it for another use.

She has been trying to get rid of a wart. She read somewhere that using duct tape over the wart at night works.

she has been putting on the wart medicine, then covering with a small patch of duct tape. Looks funny but appears to be working.

Used it in an emergency to patch my air compressor lines. This will only work temp (month or so in my case) had to eventually get a new hose. but it saved the project I was working on.

A friend had a hole in the wall in the house he was renting. used duct tape to tape over the hole, then spray painted. you could tell it was there, but it looked better than a hole!

Down here, there are 2 staples your truck should never be without...duct tape and bailing wire. That's a one stop shopping tool box there!

The doctor just told my wife to use duct tape on her wart. The wart patches are not working on the wart, but sure are killing the skin around it. Hopefully the duct tape will work.

I used it to make a machete sleeve. Cardboard with duct tape. Worked well until some drunk friends decided they could burn it for heat.

Fantastic for clamping things together while glue sets up, fits any shape. When duct tape won't cut it I reach for my bailing wire.

Re: Speaking of duct tape...

Roscoe - Your thinking of Camera Tape, which is paper based and made to be very temp. only stick once type of application.

Gaffers is a cloth based, vinyl coated, rubber adhesive, tearable, high temp., water-proof tape.

Comes in two grades utility @ $10.00 or pro @ $20.00 per roll.

The sticky residue of Duct tape is the main why I don't touch the stuff. That and the quailty is well, the same thing that makes it popular, it's cheap.

If you had reason to tape rather expensive instruments down on a regular basis, were surrounded by P.A.'s that wouldn't think twice about using a roll of Duct tape, if they saw it, you'd keep it off your set too.

Having said that, I do get a kick out of the various uses people come up with for Duct tape.

I still want to hear the busted nose story. THE BUSTED NOSE
The scenario:
Big party. Very late (maybe too late?). The natives have been in the firewater way too long. A bunch of people in the pool graba**ing around.
Keith's (my nephew) girlfriend ( a real attractive young lady) stumbles out of the pool holding her nose and begins walking up to everyone saying; "Look what Keith did to my nose. Is it broke? Keith kicked me in the nose. Is it broke?" Yep. It was way broke. I told her to come in the house an' I'd fix it. We got in the house and I broke out the duct tape and fixed it right up. Then she starts walking around to everyone saying; "Keith broke my nose but he fixed it. Does it look all right?". Keith finally caught up with her and said; "Why don't you shut the **** up about your nose. If we'd broke it in bed, you'd never have said a word about it".

Duct tape can fix broken noses but I'm not sure about broken relationships.

c/6

Hooty

Re: Speaking of duct tape...

OK bobber head, Gaffers tape sounds good.
I'll have to get some and put it in the toolbox under the splashwell.

But toolbox is full and it doesn't fit. Will have to get a bigger toolbox.

But new toolbox won't fit in boat. Will have to get a new and bigger boat.

Van can't pull new boat, will have to get a new "big" truck.

But new truck won't fit through garage door, will have to build a bigger one.

Zoning laws restrict number of outbuildings, will have to sell house and move to a more appropriate property.

Its going to be an expensive 2003.
Maybe I'll stick with duct tape.

Or maybe I can just unroll a few inches of the gaffers tape and stick it to the swim platform, you did say it was waterproof.

Re: Speaking of duct tape...

lol bbabe! you could save the trouble, by ducktapin a large funnel to the front of the lid, then it could stay down forever :D

maxG, i found a good one in that link:

Take a roll of Duck Tape and put it in a fruit cake batter and bake it. No one will ever find it and you will save money on all that fruit cake stuff! Merry Christmas! --- Joe, from Brooklyn .... (living in Texas, it's much better!)

:D :D :D

BBabe, I don't think you want that. You would get a wet seat. It would not make us sit. What you need to do is rig a foot pedal. We can step on the pedal, and the seat raises, when done, a hydrolic cylinder slowly lowers the seat gently I just looked on the web and it looks like a couple people have already come up with the idea and probably have gone out of business in the .com bust since their site are no longer in service.
