Re: Spell check?

I don't know if its possible to install one within v-bulletin, but if it is, that would be a great feature to have.

Re: Spell check?

I?m a terrible speller so I just use MS Word then copy and paste. This way I can mislead people into believing I know things. :p

Re: Spell check?

Personally, I do my best with spelling and grammar, but it's not my strong suit. As long as a post is intelligible, I don't have a problem with it. There have been posts before that were nearly unintelligible due to massive misuse of basic grammar. Yours however, may be the most misspelled to date. Props.

We also have to bear in mind the different versions of "English" from different countries.
England English differs quite a lot in spelling than U.S. English which has a lot of variances from Canadian English. Don't know about Australian English though but I am sure there are some more differences again.
Couple of examples.
Winterise (England)
Winterize (USA)
Tyre (England)
Tire (USA)
and the list goes on.

Yes, the forum has a spell check however, it does not appear with certain browsers..... I use a Chrome browser and it has one built in too......... just like any spell check.....if you type the wrong word it will not pick it up.

Yes indeed Ken!...here is another quick one:
Color (USA) vs. Colour (Canada & ....the UK..I think)
...and there are quite a few more.;)

Re: Spell check?

I agree, there are some pretty painful threads around here to read, a few folks have some challenges and its not color<->colour problems.

Thanks to Don for pointing out the spell check button, I hope a few of us use it more often (I know I will). Also, another reason to use Firefox, other than it blocks pesky ads, is it highlights misspelled words.

It doesn't help their/there misuse, but at least it will get you close.

Re: Spell check?

as mentioned VB has one, I believe the google toolbar also spellchecks and highlights or underlines words in red for you. That's what I use anyway...

Re: Spell check?

Buy a Mac people...it spell checks whatever and wherever you are writing. ;) Sentence structure....well, you are on your own.

Not to open a can of worms here, but I always wince when someone comments or criticizes spelling and grammar. I know this topic can go round and round, but I think it's unfortunate that someone wouldn't reply to something because they feel uncomfortable with their literary skills.

This is a forum, not an academic paper. It's also global. Who knows if English is someone's second or third language? Or there is learning disability? Or they are randomly putting something down while putting the kids to bed? (I just did that)

My bro-in-law is one of the most creative and brilliant mechanics I have ever met. He's dyslexic and thus was put on the 'short bus' in school. At 50 he still believes he's dumb....because of something unrelated to intelligence.

Mis-spell away! Its the message that counts!

... Not to open a can of worms here, but...

To put the lid back on that can....that was the reason behind this thread to begin with. There are a ton of applications available to help with those who may have problems{Thanks Don for pointing out the one here}. Was no intent on belittling anyone's academic achievements or lack there of, more of a tip/suggestion.

IMO, if you can take pride in yourself, family, job, whatever, why not take some in your posts to which the world has a front row view of! I myself use Firefox and it's built in checker, way more than I care to admit. ;)

This.

I'm in Chrome right now - been fooling with it, to see if I like it. One of the first things that I noticed, is that it has a built in spell check function.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ...... if I could only get it to do windows too!

This is good to know too - as long as I have been coming in here, I never noticed that function!
