Spitting gas out of carb when in water?

From my perspective, the reed itself looks ok, but the plate above it looks like crap. I'd remove the reeds, and have a real good look at them, clean up the hold down plate, and make sure it's all in good shape. I'm also a fan of replacing the ring's. Why go in there twice if ya don't have to.

Thanks! If i could figure what the ring gap needs to be I'd feel comfortable replacing them. Far as I've found from this forum in the past a guy says in general top ring gap= .004x piston bore and bottom= .005x piston bore. Says this is supposed to reduce ring flutter of the top ring.

Looks like the reed on the bottom twist when it opens.and the zinc plating has worn off the stop.

Talking with cc reeds about getting some for this motor. Should be interesting after its all said and done. Might just be custom made😁

Think I found the answer to the ideal compression for this motor. 115-125 is ideal per a manual I found online. This should be interesting once all said and done. Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. Hate to see threads go dead on this site...

0.25 mm - 0.46 mm

I liked the ball the first time I used it years ago. Reason is the wear pattern is not uniform as you move up and down the cylinder. The rings made this pattern and obviously follow it. The ball will follow it too, stone won't. When reinstalling the flywheel ensure that the Woodruff key is intact and installed. Torque flywheel...I don't have a number for your engine but you can www it and it probably will show up somewhere or ask on here. Faztbullet is a shop owner and mechanic. He'd probably know or have a manual handy.....to name one learned source.

On the hone pattern, about 30 degree angle in an X, up and down, in and out. Just enough to cut the glaze. Have the drill spinning when you go in and when you come out. Wash out the bore good when finished with hot soap (Dawn) and water. Then dry good and lubricate to prevent corrosion and to aid in the piston reassembly. I liked to use Lubriplate 105 in a tube, made for engine rebuilding. It's thick enough to stay put during the rebuild and thin enough to wash out when the engine gets to running. Most any auto parts store will carry it.

The combustion chamber looks really clean. Good. The loop charged engine uses 2 wedge shaped rings and they are designed to expand on the compression stroke meaning they need to be free of the piston proper and be able to move freely in the groove. Ensure this piston groove is clean as a whistle when you put it back together and slick it up too.

Not sure how i missed this post. Thanks for your insite. I'll make sure evening is at spec when reassembling.

You cannot put OS ring on STD pistons...the guy is full of BS

Since i have the block apart and have smoothed out a lot of the casting imperfections I want to "ruff up" the intake. Mostly inside the block. I planned to use some coarse grit sand paper to do so. Would advise against this? I'll be leaving the ports untouched.

I'd advise against using sand paper. IF a small chunk of grit embeds itself in the cylinder wall, it will cause instant damage/scratches on the piston, rings, or cylinder walls. I say that IF, is pretty high on the list myself. You may not feel it or see it after cleaning it up, but it could be there. Can you simply bring it to a shop and have them hone it properly? I have in the past, 5 bucks and ready to go. Or just buy a ball hone.

I'm gonna purchase a ball hone for the cylinder. The sand paper was for the intake inside off the block. The area where the gas/ oil inter from the carb, then pass through the block around the piston and then into the intake ports.

Ok, I misunderstood where you were using the paper. It'll be fine.
