Spitting gas out of carb when in water?

Ran the outboard in a big storage tub with a top. The lower unit has been removed to replace the water pump. The engine was ran for an hour at varying speeds. The engine seems to have a snappy throttle response, smoother idle and use a bit less gas then previously. Next up I'll order an impeller and put it all back together. After the outboard has seen some run time on the water I'll check the compression again.

Don't run or test OB's on barrels for extended time use, be aware that OB is being cooled with recirculating HOT WATER...

Ran a 10 hp at idle in a barrel for about 1 hr.-----Water was starting to get warm after 1 hr but no problems.

Since the lower unit is off I connected a garden hose the copper pipe that supplies water to the powerhead. Turned the water on checked for leaks and fired it up. Ran great in the time it was ran. Even when i run an outboard in a tank i keep an eye on the water temp. Hate to ruin a good powerhead. Still it runs awesome and way better then before.
glad i could get it running good with what i spent. I'd list parts and vendors but I'm sure it'll get deleted.
Thanks to all who followed this thread and have their opinion or advice. I'll post compression numbers after run time.
Thanks!

Finally got around to the maiden voyage today. The engine runs extremely good minus what sounds like piston slap at low rpms. Very powerful for it's size. Pushes me pelican bass raider about 10+ miles an hour at wot. Definitely worth the investment.

Update after some run time. I must say thank all who helped though this journey. It has given me a solid outboard that I am really enjoying.
Shot out to CC reeds the motor purrs, excellerates and runs awesome!
I still need to get the compression test results done for future reference. It no longer has what was believed to be piston slap and little vibration unlike what a single cylinder engine would. I may have spent about $120 on this rebuild. Cheap 5hp carb, reeds, sheet of gasket material for the bottom of the powerhead, rtv for the block halves and the ball flex hone. Looking into doing this again on another motor one day. Easy money and worth the investment!
