Welcome to the madness!!! Pretty sure your boat is gunna be rated for no more than 115hp and more like 90hp.

What I’ve always wondered was let’s say in 1974 a 100hp motor weighs X amount. And in 2018 it’s gonna weigh considerably less soo why can’t you go bigger from older hp ratings. I’m sure there’s thrust to consider also. But....

also on my old 16’ SS I just threw some regular old plywood In it and would replace it every 3 years it would take me less than 5 hours to remove and replace

Good morning all . Just finished my nite gig and off to day gig in while . Sleep when iam dead . I think NH will let me do the homemade trailer thing ? Hull plate says 140 . Think I'll be safe with 90 or 115 . Boat was made before they changed way they measured hp . My problem if any on engine will be weight if anything , money aside ! Yah rails and windows scream vintage /retro ! Would Make a wonderful little enter console with modern updates . For now it's going to stay walk thru with bucket seats . I'll probaby dust the cobwebs off my rear end and spring for Moden rails but will try to save and reuse as much as I can . The admiral likes the vintage look ( were antique folk, had antique shop ) , and I don' want to walk the plank . Total cost ?? I suffer from OCD and being penny wise and dollar stupid , so despite my attempt to make me solid cheap fishing rig , I should probally just finance a new mako with and etech on back right now , probally be cheaper . Anybody got lead or idea on cheap horse trailer , Iam going to have to tackle that one before this floats to keep admiral from shooting me !

Well I got home today after getting 3 hrs sleep yesterday and grabbed beer and went over to boat . After 2nd beer I decided that it wasn't in too bad of shape . Nothing some old ply wood and 2x4's some JB weld and cheap spray paint won't cure. Oh yah , some sheet rock screws too ! Here' some pics of inside boat-

Anybody replace transom with coosa board out there ? What would my cost be for board in boat this size and is it good or bad idea ? I really don't want to have to redo it more than once . I'e read of others epoxy on marine board and making it solid but i like the idea of coosa weight savings , so I can mount potentially heavy motor

Transom width is around an 1 1/2” I pl400 two pieces fresh mold punch wood at 3/4” each. Screwed also then sealed the crap out of it. It was pretty easy being only my 2nd transom replacement.

Check out the 2nd link in my signature below. Has some good info on how to build and install a plywood transom. If done correctly and cared for and maintained properly it'll last for 3-4 decades or more.

Hi woodenglass . Boat is 18 foot super sport from all indications . Yes transom and floor/deck are toast . Hull plate says 140 hp . Thinking 90 to 115 if money allows . Reality says long rebuild . With out motor I can say id be lucky to come in under 2-4 k spent , obcourse this will be over time to lessing the hurt and keep the admiral from making me walk the plank

Grew up in a 1976 SS18 with a 1979 115 V4 Johnson. Good overall match, about 45 mph. Watch for Rib Cracks when you pull the floor, right about the Helm back. You can even see them if you look on the outside, between the bottom to the double rivets at the freeboard. At the ends of each cross member, there will be U shape of rivets ending about 1 1/2" from the double rivets.

Ty for reply and tips . V4 Johnson is direction Iam looking , they are work horses , but that's down the line . This is going to be slow for a while , little free time and my schedule has been a killer . The transom when it gets done will probally be your way described . Just exploring my options , with coosa board question. . Hoping all I have to deal with is just rivets and maybe pin prick or two . The hull looks pretty good on outside no dents or gouged except for some scraping . I know that means little if some PO pounded the hell out of it .
