I have a 1992 E115TLEND and it seems the starter is having problems turning the motor over on the initial start. It engages but doesn't seem to have the power to turn it over. After a couple of tries it starts fine. Is the starter getting weak and is that what needs to be replaced? Connections seem to be tight and clean. Is there a way to test the starter to see if it's get weak? Any help would be appreciated.

If ALL the connections are clean and tight the next thing to do is have your battery load tested. Or you could have a starter motor going bad.

Those starters are elegantly easy to work on.-----Just take it apart and inspect brushes.--Take ohm reading from commutator to the shaft.--Should read infinity.--I install new brushes all the time at $5.00 a set.

Thanks for replying. Appreciate it. I did replace the battery and it didn't help. Looks like the next step is to check the starter. could I get a little more help on how to test the starter before I take it apart?

If you don't find anything wrong you may have to take it to a rebuild shop to have the armature checked properly.

Thanks for the help. Much appreciated. Cleaned and sanded battery connections and that seemed to help. Although they looked good.

Jump the starter direct from a known strong battery, using a set of automotive cables. If it cranks the engine normally, it's ok and the problem is elsewhere. Could be a weak solenoid or a problem with the key switch itself. Those starters are easy to work on, and Bombardier sells replacement brush kits for them.
