i have a 1981 johnson 9.9....<br />the starter pawl broke. (the thin piece of plastic that makes it return to position once the throttle is returned to idle) if you know this motor, its just a piece of red plastic, and at retail the part is maybe $8. but, in order to replace it, i have to pull the flywheel (according to my calculations.) i could just tape it off, but then i cant advance the throttle to WOT. so.... what should i do? break it off for good so that it cannot engage at all? (no neutral safety position) suck it up and pull the flywheel and replace it?
