my 87 marnier150 mag is still having low end starting and idling probs when it starts in fast idle on high will only tach about 2000 normally it would race way up sometimes it will start and idle for a few minutes then it sounds like it loses power and will slowly die once it is started and you quickly give it throttle it runs great witout a miss when i first bought the boat the high end of the stater was bad and i had the opposite problem i have good compression rebuilt carbs and new plugs with no change could it be the idle module or the low end of the stater and how can i test them thanks very much

When's the last time you did a complete linkage and timing adjustment on that engine?

check the timing..if it is good, you need to re rebuild your carbs, you missed and idle jet or 2.

I have seen many people have to do the carbs a second time, because they missed the idle jets....or just did not properly clean the carbs the first time.

The other item about carb work is it doesn't take much of a base gasket leak to make it idle poorly.

'nother thing to check is the bleed lines, condition, correct routing, and check valves.

hope it helps

I just bought an Ultrsonic cleaner at Harbor freight which I don't buy much than throw away tools..It worked fantastic on cleaning my 200h.p carbs...While they were pretty clean..you do two 3 minute cycles on each carb with Dawn and cystal clean..no more carb spary..use blow gun to blow dry the passages and good to go for this season.. They hadn't been done in three years. Take all jets out not just the high speed jet...

thanks John for your helpi checked all the bleed lines and the routing and removed the idle jets and throughly cleaned them and blew them out with hihg pressure air. it was running pretty good and the last 2 weeks it has gotten worse it al most sounds when it idle shuts down is that 2 or 3 plug wires are pulled and it loses power thanks again for your help iam about to pull my hair out the bass are biting on my favorite lake and i cant go lol
