Still need help getting motor to tilt up!
Ok, this seems like one step forward and 2 backwards (story of my life lately!) I took the motor off in order to move it to the boat I want to use it on. With that transom side accessible I was able to attach the release lever/hook thingy to the pin (Part #98 in the diagram). When my husband and I put it on the boat, even after messing with the release and lock lever, it didn't freely tilt up. He gave it a big old pull and then it did move up (I didn't see him do it so I don't know exactly how he did it, but there wasn't any noise like you guys said would happen if it was triggered while boating and I hit something). It was getting dark so I didn't get a chance to look it over well while it was in the tilted up position and the next day, he pulled it back down. Now it won't go back up again and he doesn't remember how he got it to do that in the first place. The boat I have it on now is much lower to the ground so I can't drive the boat anywhere with the motor sitting straight up and down because it's only about 7 inches off the ground! I included pictures I took tonight of it and I am puzzled by the notched area that I circled in blue. It would seem that in order to tilt, the bar would move from one notch to the next and so on

to control how far it tilts, is that right? But it does NOT move out of the notch it's in.
What is the pivot point whereupon the motor tilts? Can you circle the pivot area in a picture for me? I don't want to keep yanking on the motor and possibly damage the transom. When he did get it tilted up that once, it moved up and down freely, didn't lock into place up so I know I can't drive with it like that or it will just flop back down when I hit a bump. Shouldn't it stay locked up while I'm driving to the lake? Like I said, this is so frustrating because I know it's a basic part of using a motor and it shouldn't be this dang hard!
Oh, one last thing, when I was messing with it tonight and moving it around, a black rubber square with 2 nubs on it fell down and I had no idea what it was or where it came from. I see on the diagram that it's part #100. Crap! What does that do and is that part of my problem? I think I need to open a large bottle of wine now.....
