I went camping a couple of weeks ago and left my boat on the beach while we drove out to the store and someone stole the plug out of my boat and replaced it with a wad of duct tape. Needless to say that didn't last very long and my boat sank, fortunalty close to shore so I was able to hook on with my Yukon and tow it up onto the boat launch. The only thing out of water was the bow. This is a 1988 70HP jonhson, I got all the water out of the motor and remote oil tank, carbs etc and she fired right up and ran good so we finished our vacation. My question is is there any other place that should be drained/ oil replaced on this unit before winter arrives? I live in Maine.

Re: sunk motor

You did all the right things by getting it going again asap. You should be alright now. I despise people that do things like that. I really do hate thieves.

Well done IMO. The only thing I would add is I'm hoping you used it lots after you got it running. That is the best thing for it. I really don't understand the mentality of people who would do such a thing for whatever reason. They really make you scratch your head. Best of luck. Rick.

I would change the Lower Unit oil, but that's just standard mantenance procedure anyhow. Lucky thing you got the motor going again. If you ran it at WOT for a couple minutes, that should have cleaned it all out.;)

Re: sunk motor

Probably too late now but richening up the fuel/oil mixture would have been good for the first while.

I assume it was fresh, and not salt water.

If so, you are probably fine

I'm not much for violence, but that person needs an ***-whooping. Glad to hear you got going again. Never heard of a more heartless story than that. That was a pitifully pathetic move on the thief's part.
