Hi Everyone ! Just want to collect some opinions on a 03 F25 hp w/electric start. I'm going to be Buying one of two motors.......The other being a 98 Honda Bf 30 hp w/ electric start. They both appear to be in the same condition, the problem is that I'm a honda guy at heart!! Just like to hear what everyone here has to say good or bad! Problems or things I should look for in either motor, any buying tips??

Thanks in advance !:)

It would help greatly if you told us if they were fresh water or salt water motors and the price of each motor. The number of hours on each motor and if they were serviced regularly and if they were ever rebuilt. Those are some of the vital questions you need to ask the seller.

Re: Thinking of buying a F25?

Both motors are fresh water and as far as the hours on each I have know idea. Is there an hour gauge on either motor?? A local marina has both motors on the showroom floor and the salesman says that the motor I choose will receive a full service before I take delivery. As for the cost $2400 for either motor! The Honda may be a slight bit cleaner, I don't belive that either motor has been rebuilt ( but I will ask) both motors are 4-strokes. Thanks for the help!

Sounds like you should decide which one you want to buy. It sounds like you can choose eather a 03 F25 hp w/electric start, or a 98 Honda Bf 30 hp w/ electric start. I would first decide which one you want then you'll know which one you dont need to buy. Lets say that you decide to buy the 98 honda. Now you know that you dont need to buy the 03 F25. Or if you decide to buy the 03 F25, then you will not need to buy the honda. Once you decide which motor you would like to buy then you will not need to buy the other one. If you buy the honda it sounds like it has 5 more HP than the F25 as it has 30 HP which is 5 more than the F25. The F25 is a 25 hp motor and a 30 hp motor has more hp than a 25 hp one. Also you might want to keep in mind that 25hp is a little less than 30hp. If you were to buy the F25 then you will be getting a motor that has 25hp and that is a little less than a 30hp motor. It really is up to you though which one you choose. I have a yamaha and i love it. It has 115 hp and that is a different class of hp range than your F25, as the F25 has 25 hp. I like honda's also but like i said i love yamaha as well. So it all kinda comes down to which one you want to buy. Sounds like you could choose a 03 F25 hp w/electric start, or a 98 Honda Bf 30 hp w/ electric start. Good luck on choosing one.

I think I would consider the servicing dealers reputation and location.
If your a Honda guy maybe stick with the Honda. You'll need the extra hp
anyway.

Is the dealer who is offering you these motors an autorized Honda or Yamaha dealer? I would also ask for the name of the previous owner. If they refuse to give it to you it may be a sign that they are hiding something.

Re: Thinking of buying a F25?

Did not know there was any freshwater locations on LONG ISLAND. Have to be low time motors as they would be trailered to CONN. or PENN. to find a lake. Just my observation, have noticed that HONDAS show more corrosion than YAMAHAS but I am around saltwater. Assuming you are going to hang it on a smaller boat, weight is going to be important. Believe the HONDA will be quite a bit heavier, the extra hp. might not be worth it. I have a YAMAHA and am quite happy with it. Good luck with witch ever you choose! FRED
