Can you make a type of wooden block to fit over the rail section with a channel cut to hold the strap in place? That way the strap will rub the wooden block and not the hull. The block, if fitted well, will not rub the hull. JMHO!

Thanks for the idea gm, I'll play around with that after dinner and see what I can come up with.

No wonder you are rubbing and wearing on the boat. These are cargo straps

Buy some real boat tie downs, not cargo straps. Even WallyWorld has tie downs that have covers so no metal touches the boat.

Transom strap with built in cover;

Gunnel strap with the same type of cover.

Hear up north in Canada finding marine stuff has not been easy but CTC has cargo straps and they are what I bought. I am not looking to replace them by importing some from the US. I am looking for ways to deal with what I have not replace it.

If you know of a Canadian retailer that carries them that are not overpriced I'll maybe consider replacing what I have.

Try Princess Auto, they have 2" tie downs made for boats. These are what we use and don't have a problem with them

Do yours touch your boat though? I just think that any strap touching the boat will be an issue that is why I really am not worried about the strap type more of the rubbing that occurs.

I had one trailer where the stern of the boat went past the end of the trailer doing what you are encountering, what I did was get 2 pieces of square tubing that fit into the trailer frame, I put about 2 feet into the trailer frame held in with 2 'C' type clips and had them extend just past the stern of the boat, bolted an eye to each and hooked my tie down into the eye which kept the straps away from the stern. When getting the boat ready to launch I just removed the 'C' clips and pulled the tubes out of the frame and launched my boat, reversed the procedure when taking it out of the water. You do need and enclosed frame for this to work though, if the frame is a channel frame you could weld a tube to the frame to accept the tubes I used. Hope you can understand what I'm saying.

Wow, you failed to mention that it was a metal ratchet that was rubbing on the boat. Any marine place, iboats, amazon or a million other places will have the correct straps for your trailer.

The metal only rubs if I put the straps that way most of the time I remember to put them so only the strap is rubbing not the metal. Still weather metal or strap rubbing I am looking for a solution to make it so nothing rubs. I do not want the straps any part of them to touch the boat other than at the transom eyes.
