Thanks for the idea gm, I'll play around with that after dinner and see what I can come up with.Can you make a type of wooden block to fit over the rail section with a channel cut to hold the strap in place? That way the strap will rub the wooden block and not the hull. The block, if fitted well, will not rub the hull. JMHO!
Hear up north in Canada finding marine stuff has not been easy but CTC has cargo straps and they are what I bought. I am not looking to replace them by importing some from the US. I am looking for ways to deal with what I have not replace it.No wonder you are rubbing and wearing on the boat. These are cargo straps
Buy some real boat tie downs, not cargo straps. Even WallyWorld has tie downs that have covers so no metal touches the boat.
Transom strap with built in cover;
Gunnel strap with the same type of cover.
If you know of a Canadian retailer that carries them that are not overpriced I'll maybe consider replacing what I have.
Do yours touch your boat though? I just think that any strap touching the boat will be an issue that is why I really am not worried about the strap type more of the rubbing that occurs.Try Princess Auto, they have 2" tie downs made for boats. These are what we use and don't have a problem with them

The metal only rubs if I put the straps that way most of the time I remember to put them so only the strap is rubbing not the metal. Still weather metal or strap rubbing I am looking for a solution to make it so nothing rubs. I do not want the straps any part of them to touch the boat other than at the transom eyes.Wow, you failed to mention that it was a metal ratchet that was rubbing on the boat. Any marine place, iboats, amazon or a million other places will have the correct straps for your trailer.
