Tie downs

I am having issues with the tie downs, the normal ones you would put on the transom eyes do not work as they rub along the transom bottom edge of the boat and do excessive wear. Already had to repaint once. I then tried one solid one across the top near the guides and it caused the gel coat to wear off in just 1 trip I even had foam under it to protect it. Any ideas on how to hold my boat down?

I will post pictures later of the trailer and boat showing the damage done already.

Sounds to me like your boat is too far back on the trailer. Is the transom supported by the bunks, or does it hang out in the air?

No bunks only rollers. The last roller is maybe 1 ft ahead of the transom.

I have the same issue (to a point) given the transom angle...use boat buckles, only the strap touches the boat and if properly cinched, shouldn't move?! I can post a pic if necessary?

Easy enough to fix if it is just touching. Couple washers behind the boat buckles.

Aft roller should support the transom.

Rollers 1ft forward of the transom sounds like a great way to hook a fiberglass hull.

I have taken my hand along the hull when it is in the water to look for dents and found non so I am assuming it is fine otherwise something would have shown up in the 14 years since the previous owner bought the trailer for it.

I wouldn't be happy if mine were doing that, but whatever works for you. That is some pretty odd transom loop placement for a transom that shape.

bajaunderground I would worry with that set up that I would get rubbing and wear over the years.

My last roller is about 3 inches back past the end of the trailer so looking about 15" forward of the transom for the closest point to put a strap. I am thinking maybe I could create a pillow of sorts, maybe that would work since connecting anything onto the transom is out of the question.

A dent from a roller is different then hook.

Check w a 4ft straight edge

A pix of your setup might be helpful

Agreed on the transom shape...there are some loops underneath the swim platform, but they are not as robust as the transom eyes. FWIW, I just ran 1,000 miles from Colorado Springs to Lake Powell and back without any issue...I though the same given that the strap rests on the transom like it does. So far no add'l wear nor abrasion. The straps are fixed and do not move, but a washer or some sacrificial padding wouldn't be a bad idea if one was worried?

Good to know there is a difference, just looked it up. I will post pictures as stated in my OP when I can and that is not tonight too dark to get decent ones so will hopefully tomorrow.

I did go out however and use a maybe 3-4 ft 2x4 and it looked fine but will check again in the morning when I can see better. Hopefully it is okay since I refuse to replace the trailer this year due to plans to sell next year and the cost and work is just not worth it.

It sounds like the trailer is too small for the boat. My straps don't touch the fiberglass at all.

All else aside, is moving the boat a few inches further up on the trailer out of the question?
I remember back in the 80's Bayliners had a bad reputation for hooking on the factory matched trailers.

I think it has to do with the placement of the winch post but alas it is welded in place and again doubt it is worth it for the 1-2 months I have left till I put it away fro the winter and sell in the spring so guess I will just deal with the wear marks.

Here is an imgur link to the images. Don't forget to scroll to see all just had to remind those who never seem to remember. I have put comments on most images read them as well and you will see what I mean when I say I can't attach the boat the 'normal' way.
