Tilt/Trim

I justed replaced brushes on motor and drained fluid but im not sure of what type to put back in,the tilt/trim motor is for a 115 IL6 yr 1976 i've been told to just put in reg. Non-Detergent 30w anyone know for sure Thanks

That or normal ATF.... Your choice...

yeah, i didn't learn that valuable piece of info until after i paid $15 for a single quart of hydraulic fluid from my mercury dealer. i felt like an utter tool when i discovered i could have spent $2.95.

The original oil specified was 5W-30 motor oil. SAE 30 is a bit heavier, and may not work in cold weather. ATF is OK as well.

If you only drained the pump reservoir, there will still be "original" oil in the lines and cylinders. Probably not a good idea to mix fluids, so either refill with the same type fluid as was originally in there OR, drain the complete system then refill with the fluid of your choice.

Good point Moody didnt think about that,and it was only the fluid in the reservoir that i drained not sure what type of fluid used originally.How do i drain out the old fluid in lines and cylinders Thanks for all the help Guys

If it was honey coloured, it was 30W oil. If it was red, AFT....
