I tow it with bimini down. I also place a bungee cord (the ones with a plastic coated hook on both ends) on both sides of the frame and secure them to handles on both sides. It gets hit by less wind and debris being down and behind the windshield.

Towing at highway/freeway speeds is approaching hurricane velocities. "Any" weakness will show itself.

Back to the subject. Something that hasn't been mentioned is usng 'quick release' pins in your fittings. The best ones imo are the spring loaded version with the lil lanyard. Drill a 1/4" hole through the fitting(s), attatch the lanyard under the deck hinge'n yer good to go.

Thanks, that is a good idea I had not thought of. Part of issues with folding it up and down each time was removing and replacing the screws holding things together. Even though the "screws" have the thumbwheels on them the threads are real tight and you need to be wearing a pair of gloves to get a good enough grip to get them to spin.

This is what I was thinking too.

I haven't had an issue with my bimini and I never lower it. I put the bimini on 3 years ago, no issue yet.

Increased drag at best. At worst it hits a low branch or works loose and breaks or comes off. It doesn't even take a minute to put it down so why tow with the Bimini up?

I think you'd be fine with it up and not needing to replace with metal fittings, however as others have said, just lower the support poles and lay it down. Less drag and less stress altogether.
