Re: Transom Modification - Worth doing?
If the area between that wooden partition thingy and the engine stays open, I would be tempted to add rather than subtract.
By the time you add a couple batteries, full tank of gas, engine, and a couple passengers, then open 'er up and watch the bow rear up to about 45 degrees to horizontal.....hmmmmmm. The phrase "stern-first vertical descent" comes to mind. Something I would probably pay to watch, but not necessarily want to participate in.
I do wonder if there isn't an opportunity to create a bombproof transom by tying some vertical stringers from that partition into it at this point......
OK.....I realize I was a little wishy-washy and noncommital here and hereby make amends....I will definitely pay to see it, but my upper limit is 30 bucks.
I am posting this for a friend. He is in the middle of restoring a 1977 cheetah ski boat. He is throwing around the idea of taking 3 inches off the height of the transom and building a swim platform for skiers and wake-boarders to get in and out of the water. He is wanting some thoughts on this idea, worth doing or not? Reasons why or why not? Click the picture below to watch the video explaining his idea.
I am just posting this for him, I have already shared my thoughts with him, but he wants to know what you think.
