i like how none of you have any sorta prospect of me succeeding. Thats cool, your opinions verse mine! I like how none of you are even thinking outside the box.

Do some more homework! thats a lil harsh man.

well im done posting here. until boat gets finished i guess and it goes out. for a test trial. cause im done with all the negative attitude. so good luck with your projects. and none of the support.

peace

You obviously do not know the purpose and effect of a jack plate and combine that with your swim platform re-design.

Okay how about do some research .......... that a more sophisticated word for you.

Re: Transom Modification - Worth doing?

If the area between that wooden partition thingy and the engine stays open, I would be tempted to add rather than subtract. :)

By the time you add a couple batteries, full tank of gas, engine, and a couple passengers, then open 'er up and watch the bow rear up to about 45 degrees to horizontal.....hmmmmmm. The phrase "stern-first vertical descent" comes to mind. Something I would probably pay to watch, but not necessarily want to participate in.

I do wonder if there isn't an opportunity to create a bombproof transom by tying some vertical stringers from that partition into it at this point......

OK.....I realize I was a little wishy-washy and noncommital here and hereby make amends....I will definitely pay to see it, but my upper limit is 30 bucks.

I am posting this for a friend. He is in the middle of restoring a 1977 cheetah ski boat. He is throwing around the idea of taking 3 inches off the height of the transom and building a swim platform for skiers and wake-boarders to get in and out of the water. He is wanting some thoughts on this idea, worth doing or not? Reasons why or why not? Click the picture below to watch the video explaining his idea.

I am just posting this for him, I have already shared my thoughts with him, but he wants to know what you think.

Looking at your last picture with you standing on the platform, it looks like you have about 8" to spare before you swamp your boat? Now add the weight of your engine, battery or batteries or any miscelanius stuff on or near the transom and that 8" will no doubt become less. Now lets consider you have a skier or wakeboarder standing on that platform after doing his or her thing that 8" will become even more less, thats not even taking into account you or someone driving the boat or "spotting". In the "caribbean" I have seen the type of boat you are trying to emulate taking tourists on "Para Sking" rides they have a deck on the boat for the tourists to land on, the only difference is those boats are about 22' and up in length. I hope you have left enough space for some "Scuba Tanks" they might come in handy!

Re: Transom Modification - Worth doing?

Yay, test float worked great, no leaks! had two people on the back and the transom didnt even go down in the water. stayed where i was in the picture. Tomorrow hopefully gonna mount the motor on the back end. and get the steering all attached up. I finished making the seat box today, which made alot more support for the center of the boat making less flx in the hull. just need to finalize the tank up front, and get the dash kit all wired up. for a test run. and will show you all how thinking outside the box might work a lil bit.

Re: Transom Modification - Worth doing?

What you've done with your "second transom" is create a splash well... it's a compartment in the boat aft of the passenger space that you expect to get full of water because the transom behind it is so low.

That's fine, it does reduce the interior space of the boat. It'll also make whomever is climbing over the transom climb a bit farther. Make sure you put a good bilge pump or scuppers in the splash well to drain it, and if the bilge pump runs constantly make sure it's not going to drain your battery down to nothing.

Make sure you do a float test with all equipment in place and people in the boat at the dock before you declare it ready to go.. you might need to adjust ballast to get it to float safely. Expect lots of water over the transom, and construct the bulkhead in front of the splash well accordingly.

Re: Transom Modification - Worth doing?

Trust me ive already thought about that. under the swim step "the splash well i built" whatever gonna call it now. there is a pump. if you look closer at the picture it shows the install of the pump and hose! its already in there Ive thought all about that! Again my intentions of the second transom "splash wall was so that all the water that ends up getting onto the rear step runs back off the back of the boat. as soon as you get up onto plain again the water will flow right off. and ive seen those one way flow pugs you attach to a pump. i actually think i have one laying around still in a box

Just an idea of what to do with seating and a center platform for fishing. just a quick peak at what im doing. nothing is down yet, just set into place to see what it would look like.

Looks pretty good to me. Seating is really dependent on what you're doing with the boat.

The "one way plug" things are usually called "scuppers".. they let water out and usually only a little bit in.

The bilge pump looks good, make sure it can keep up and (since it looks big) make sure it won't drain your battery to nothing doing so.

Otherwise, looks good. Keep going and take pics :)
