Here is a Link for the Gearcase for a 1980

Here is a link to a 1979 Gearcase, which is the one on your motor\

Maybe you have a FrankinJohn Motor, or someone put a 77-79 on an 80 Transom Bracket. It could become important when it comes to ordering parts. My Dad had 1979 and 1980 35hps and there were differences between the motors in addition to the Gearcases

There should be an Aluminum Plug/Slug on the top of the Cylinder Block, it too will have Model #

And this is where things get really confusing on this motor…the transom bracket shows a 1977 model number. The impeller for a 1977 is one of the bigger non through hub exhaust size impellers according to Crowley marine engine.com. The impeller did not fit. I think I ended up ordering parts for a 78 or 79 gear case housing.

So I think I’ve got a 1980 powerhead/cowling. 77 transom bracket and a 78 or 79 gear case.
