Re: unbelievable!!! RAWR!!!!

Being a LOWES employee I find that very hmmmmmmmmm. Besides it is your insurance that is on the truck. And $20 for the first 75 minutes. So it's gonna be a short ride. Or an expensive one. I would try HD.....not .Oh sorry now I see the humor in this...Ours is a Chevy!

I wonder if the parameters of the renting changed. I had to rent one near me when my truck was in the shop. It was about noon-ish. The contractor desk just said to bring it back sometime before they closed! I wonder what the difference was? Maybe it was just indifference on his part.

Re: unbelievable!!! RAWR!!!!

Just finished reading this thread.... Very entertaining reading, AND a happy ending! Congrats on the truck and the new money pit!
$1000 for changing spark plugs at the FORD dealership????? This does not make me want another FORD.
I drive a Chevy, have owned only 2 Fords. The one I had the longest was an Explorer with the 4 Liter V6---I got good service out of it.
My last Chevy truck had 265K on it and ran like new. The present Chevy has 130k and no problems so far (got it with 95k on it). Seems like every brand has it's bad points........ I'm not too fond of the wife's TOyota...:(
Good luck with both truck and money pit. :)

Many car dealers rent light trucks by the day. Enterprise car rental also has'em--and they'll every pick you up and take you home. Avoid UHaul for anything.

Ford and other auto manufacturers designed their new spark plugs with iridium contacts that don't need replacement until 100K miles under normal use. I long ago decided not to fix something that wasn't broken. Modern vehicles have aluminum hemi heads, 3-4 valves per cylinder, overhead camshafts and direct injection--they're just complicated animals. I'm not going to get into CAN/BUS modules all over the car communicating by computer wires--in all cars since 2008. The day of the shade tree mechanic is officially over, as they cannot afford a $20K engine analyzer and the training to operate it.

Modern cars and trucks are getting more and more efficient due to technology. Whoever would believe that a supercharged V6 (Ford F150) would out run and out tow the new Ford Coyote 5.0 engine that runs a 13 second 1/4 mile in the Mustang GT. And, it gets 22 mpg on the highway.

You might try to find a good independent Ford mechanic that's used to changing 4.6 and 5.3 spark plugs. Good luck on your car repairs.

rule #3, subsection 4, paragraph b of boating misery manual states (paraphrased of course)

"...never, under any circumstances in hindsight or foresight, just or unjust, with cause or without cause; never fix anything that isn't broken in either the boat, and/or the tow vehicle, unless it is winter time and you have no plans to use either for the foreseeable future...."

got that right !!
