Come to think of it, if she doesn't drive an alternative tow vehicle herself, then maybe it's time to find another one???

I just went through this with a Chevy 5.7 for all you Ford fans out there. After you get done with your vacumn, leave the plugs out and roll the motor over and the compresion will help to blow out the small pieces out. I had one piece the little cone shaped one that covers the electrode that I never did find. I`m thinking it blew out through the exhaust, I know it sucks but hang in there and you`ll be done.

/begin rant

so I bust my butt all over the winter/spring to get my boat finished so we can go camping over memorial day weekend on an island and right before this...I decide to do some routine maintenance to my truck...oil change and spark plugs.

I was fearing the plug change because my truck is an 06 f150 with the 5.4 3v engine that has the dreaded 2-piece spark plug design...I was prepared with new single piece plugs and the broken plug extractor tool set.

nope, god hath frowned upon my whoaful self.

I mean seriously? I'm on day 3 and probably going to have to pull the engine out and pull it apart to fix this...why cant I have nice things? seriously?

I just wanted to go out on the boat this weekend and propose to my girl on a nice moonlit night on the beach.

sigh.

/end rant

Spray everything with AreoKroil before working on days before and on brake bleeders down the hole too . Has cut down in removing Broken things

Re: unbelievable!!! RAWR!!!!

ok dumb question......what does Ford charge to replace plugs? let them have the headache if it is a known issue?

its usually a good chunk of cash as all the dealerships now know fully well about the problem.

I've got two dealers. one wanted a flat rate of $1000 and the other wanted $500 plus $120 for plugs plus $75 per broken plug....which was $995 after getting into it lol.

even with the headache I'm going through, its not worth $1000 to a dealership. not only that but a bunch of them dont even follow the TSB and dont even put high temp antiseize on the new plugs so I'd end up in the spot again down the road.

If I have to pull the heads off I'm just going to buy the updated heads and swap over is what I'm thinking.

I launch my boat with a 1970 Chevy shortbed 4wd. All original down to the carb and points ignition. Starts every time and runs great. about 300 thousand miles and still almost cant hear it running. (timing chain replaced every 60thou). I was going to change carb and ignition to electronic but it just keeps running. Maybe they are all right.AINT BROKE DONT FIX!

I had our local mechanic do it. I had heard such horror stories I was scared to even think about doing the job. Good luck with the truck.

Coffee all over monitor........

The last Ford I owned was a Contour. Bought it cheap. Put a thousand into cat converters (3 on the durned thing), drove it about 10,000 miles and it dropped a clutch slave cylinder. It's inside the bell housing, coupla grand, including dropping the entire front frame, engine, and transmission as an assembly, to get it.

It went down the road on a hook.

I told my wife if I ever think about buying a Ford, to do me a favor and just shoot me.

Ford= FIX ON RAINY DAY...Sorry...the shop vac works well plus you can get two way tape cut it in thin long strips and wrap it around a copper wire... as the copper is soft so a little bend at end wiggle it around and hold your tongue just right when removing it from the cylinder...it is a painfull process forsure....never seize doesn't help

Re: unbelievable!!! RAWR!!!!

Go to Lowes or HD. $20 for the truck. Flat bed for the cooler & tow behind tubes, complete with trailer hitch. Opt for the insurance in case you dump it in the drink.

Re: unbelievable!!! RAWR!!!!

Being a LOWES employee I find that very hmmmmmmmmm. Besides it is your insurance that is on the truck. And $20 for the first 75 minutes. So it's gonna be a short ride. Or an expensive one. I would try HD.....not .Oh sorry now I see the humor in this...Ours is a Chevy!
