cool thanks. That block of a thing is in the way of me seeing anything. I would have to get a small flashlight and get up in there Look like upper right toward the front below the valve cover gasket. Is that where the core plug is? Ya i am panic stricken. The boat is sitting at the dock

Don't freak out yet! That block of a thing is the exaust manifold? I'm suprised any one who knows this engine hasn't posted yet. Is this sea water cooled or a closed system? Is your oil O.K? Ie. not milky? ............J

If it was winterized, there should not be water anywhere. Can you post a picture???Get a flashlight and look at it in the dark and you will be able to see it better.Charlie

Re: Upper Right Side Of Engine Leaking Water

Thanks, I am on the way back down there. Had to go do something. I will check the oil and the plugs and let you know. This is the first time back in the water. I was going very slow to let it warm up. Then I made a couple of rounds and then to the dock(about 15 minutes worth of driving. The temp was 25% up. Right where it was last year most of the time. I then opened up the hood and water was streaming down the right side. More toward the front and then following the grooves I guess and down the engine. Pretty good bit of water. I guess that block is the exhaust manifold and it behind there.
The shop had it 2 months this winter repairing the wiring harness and winterizing. I asked them "are you sure you are draining that water while you are repairing the harness?" "and after cranking?" The woman working there said "we know what we are doing" I reported the wiring problem here before then.
I am just distraught to say the least. WEll I go check the oil and run a flashlight. I wont be here tonight. I check back in a little while

The oil looks normal. I didnt have the right socket for the plugs. I had 3 and they were all too big
Anyway the water is still streaming out behind the manifold?. Not as much as when it was running. The fit is too tight to see up in there to find the source
Did they screw up the winterizing?

Either way probably months in the shop and I am ill about it
I dont have a scanner to post a pic
The boat is a 1990 130 hp Mercruiser
I found them most water puddleing around the front right hand side. The leak come from the top right hand side. Somewhere from the exhaust manifold. What does the exhaust manifold do?

i would try to find a friend or somebody that at least can tell the name of the part leaking

it could be a very minor problem just a gasket or lose hose clamp

you may need to remove the engine cover to get a good look

the picture shows a lot of the parts BUT thers so many different parts in different years what is your year and motor #

tommays

Hi Tommays, the water is flowing down the side of the engine. I check all hoses up front and they are ok. All you can see is the front part of the manifold and I follow the stream up behind that. I think it is a manifold-- big rectangular box that goes from front to back to a big hose in the back. I know there are some pics of mercs on here

Just to help muck this one up . . .
I am confused about one thing. I thought you said right side? Right side looking to the stern? The manifold is on the port side.

Re: Upper Right Side Of Engine Leaking Water

Open the engine box cover, start the engine and look to see where the water is coming from. It may be as simple as the guys that winterized it forgot to put a drain plug back in the manifold.

Also, you can go to this link: Click Here and check the different sections till you find a picture that shows where it's leaking. Then just give the url of the page and the number and that will help in the repair.
Another problem, there is a year break at 89 and 90, and while your boat may be a 90, your engine could be an 89. A serial number can help figure that out.

You guys are probably right. A lot of people leave the petcock open after winterizing, but im guessing its the small brass plug was left loosened up.

Re: Upper Right Side Of Engine Leaking Water

Thanks guys! I just got back in from Girlfriends house. She couldnt help me with the boat but...did make me feel better :)
I will check out that link Don and good to see you back!.

If you are facing the rear of the boat its on the upper right front corner

I see a T shaped screw on the bottom of it that you could turn with your hand.

I will go back down and look for more screws after checking out the link.

I do know the water is running down the back of the engine from behind the rectangular metal box. YOu can barely put your finger in that space.
I sure hope its just a loose screw. I am just depressed after counting the days to the boating season
