Re: Upper Right Side Of Engine Leaking Water

I believe they are taking the manifold off. He said they were not going to completly tear it down.
I asked him for a 5 year guarentee and that was a no go. Maybe I shoot for a 1 year when I see him.
Ya when he said he would make the repair at his expense he admitted his guilt.. He even said mistakes do happen of course. He just said they never had this happen before(I think they have been in business 30 years)
The crack is 1 or 2 inches. He said with this welder I shouldnt have anymore problems with it but who knows
I had him and he had me and if I pushed it neither one of us would have won
Yea I will just keep a close watch on it and be looking for a replacement just in case.
Now if it had been a much newer boat then he would be in court if he didnt fix it right.
Temps did reach in the low 20s some days during the winter. BUt this winter was fairly mild compared to most.

You never answered whether you have a receipt for last winters winterization. If the guy was paid for a job he did not do he is liable. His comment that " a little water dripping wont hurt anything" would have put me in a rant. If you do have a receipt let him fix it temporarily and then you can get him to do the right thing in a small claims court

Oh yea I got the reciept that shows they were winterizing it and he said to me more than a few time's that they did winterize it. It went in in october before the first freeze and then I got it back at the end of December. Took so long because he said he was waiting on the wireing harness to come in.
That probably is not a bad idea if the temporary fix starts leaking after a short time. I wouldnt agree not to do it, then do it though
I would have ranted when he said that but I want that boat in the water with a chance at a decent summer.
I will tell him that I will bring the boat back if the patch doesnt last a reasonable amount of time.
Like most people on here I get a bit crazy when I pass by the lake and see others on the water while my boat is in the shop. Just makes me sick

Its good that you have the receipt. Let them temp fix it and then tell them that you want it made right. You might even find others with the same problem. Sounds like they might have gambled that it wouldnt get real cold, but a full block with twenty degree weather is enough. I cant think of anything else that would have split the block, but maybe someone here knows another reason. If not you must have small claims courts in your area

NOw I am really disturbed. I mean getting postal disturbed. Coming up on Memorial day weekend and my boat is still in the shop!!!!!!!!!
They finally got the boat over to the welder last week and according to the shop owner the weld looks very good and he says i should have no problem--ok now we are getting somewhere--NOT!
So this was last friday and its Tuesday and I am already itching to call him.
My question is. HOw long does it take to get parts in from the mercruiser place ie gaskets for a 1990 130 hp? Don says its a 1989. The boat place said it took longer to get wiring.
He said he could use OMC gaskets but wanted to be safe. Can they make the gaskets? Order them from anywhere? Are all gaskets the same or different?
I need to know before I call him
3 beautiful boating weekends already lost and counting...
Just thinking about this is wearing me out and I cant help but dwell on it

DayCruiser,

Post his phone number here and we'll all call him. He's full of #$&* . . . :D I'm serious. He'll get 100 phone calls in 10 minutes and he'll cry "Uncle".

He knows that you are not that mechanically inclined and taking advantage. The gaskets are readily available and I bet I could have them on my doorstep tomorrow morning without moving from this chair. A good shop does rework first revenue second, he is doing the reverse.

Give us that clowns name adress and phone number with area code. You need to go there and in a loud voice tell him that they never winterized your boat and the block split. Tell him you have put up with this long enough and you want your boat back now and you want a motor that does not have a split block. Take the boat and put the gasket on yourself. Go to your local Court and file a 2000.00 claim against him and his buisness. I didnt like the idea of you letting him fix it to begin with. He will say that you agreed to it. You need to go and get your boat NOW and teach him the lesson he deserves. Trust me when I tell you that if it leaks in a month he will have nothing to do with you

Re: Upper Right Side Of Engine Leaking Water

update:
I went down to the boatshop and raised the roof Wednesday lol. Backed with what yall said. Needless to say the I got a call that the boat was ready Friday afternoon Yippee!!--NOT again! $%#@&*^*&^%$^**((&*^%$$. Put the boat in the water and one of the valves was not adjusted properly!!! Sounded like a gattlin gun
I called from the boat and he said "Bring it back and we will look at it" I am about to freak again at this point. A good 15 minute drive to the shop again! So I go back and they jump right on it and its ready to go. So I spent all day friday screwing around with this but it was worth it. Because that evening we went for a cruise and saturday was great and no leaking so far. I is welded and topped with Marine tech sealer.
I hope to make it through this season and then financially be ready to buy another boat if this on croaks--or get another engine. I am really happy with this boats body style.
Through this whole ordeal the owner of the shop has acted in a nice manner. I do wish he had just replaced the block. Because clearly a mistake was made on their part. This was not a small crack. I went and looked for myself Wednesday. It was at least 10"
All shops are a month behind here so any other route taken by me would have ruined the summer anyway. At least I got a chance at a decent boating season

Keep an eye on the dipstick. Any sign of water, take it back to them ASAP.
