Re: Vote for a boat please

Our maiden voyage couldn't have gone better. My wife and I, along with our sister-in-law and her son left the dock about noon yesterday. After a brief session in "how not exit a marina" we left port. A beautiful day, it was warm, sunny and calm. We cruised along the waterfront to Sidney, met up with some other family in thier boats and spent the day wasting gas. What a great day! The boat ran beautifully and I managed to dock it a couple times without any incidents. We haven't got the roast in the oven yet but it's comin'!
Congratulations! I envy you. Your experience is one that all used boat buyers should emulate: careful homework and a good surveyor.
As I'd indicated, I'm not in the market anymore, but my fishing buddy is so enamored of them that he's looking for one too. Trouble is, there are only about 4 or 5 for sale here (Portland/Vancouver area), so he'll probably have to go up to Seattle to find one.
Give us a report after you've cleaned the bottom and done all the other fix-up stuff!

Re: Vote for a boat please

Thanks Capn Mike :) We love the Tolly, it's fantastic! Hey, your friend, is he looking for a 'mint' Tolly or does he want something he can putter with? There is another one up here that he may want to look at. It needs cleaning up and hasn't had the windows done but it looks to be in good shape and been boathoused for many years... good accessories... canvas... I think a fella could pick this up for $28000 Can. or... uh... $18000 USD. The older gentleman that owns it is fairly ill and won't be boating anymore. It's listed at http://www.vanislemarina.com/ for $33500 ($22750 USD) the broker said they want out of it now and they're going to keep dropping the price until it sells. Low offer now will take it I'm sure. Remember we talked about renaming the boat after the wife... instead, she wants to call it 'Nooner' :p

Good God! A new Tolly, pot roast and a wife who likes to play catch-me, catch-me on a boat. Does it get any better than that?
Did you buy "Menhune"? If we come up, can we call you?

Hey, We bought the boat named Cormorant, the Menehune is still for sale at Van Isle. Contact me by email if you like, my address is on my homepage. All those Tollys are within a few minutes of the ferry. I can show / take you around for sure.

Congrats on the purchase magster but I'd think twice on that new name unless you want people peering in the windows when you're having lunch.

The w-o-t hull speed sounds a little too good to be true. Is that taken off a gps?

Thank you. Yep. Garmin 72. Ya' know the hull still needs work, it could also use another inch of prop 'cause it'll rev past it's max. It'll be faster after I get that done :) Don't get me wrong though, I cruise around at 12 mph, I don't like to run stuff @ WOT... I'd rather baby it and make it last. Now for the renaming ceremony... better start making preparations.

I forget...someone here will remember...but there's a specific re-naming ceremony that's guarenteed not to give you bad luck.
But just to make sure... you should maybe try it out a few times to make sure the name is appropriate... ;) :p

That ceremony is ridiculous, I've seen it too... the broker at the marina where I bought my boat has renamed every boat he's owned (about a dozen). He says all you have to do is remove all trace of the old name, apply the new name, toast it with some bubbly, and place a lucky penny that was minted the same year as the boat where it won't be found. That's it. He said that about 25% of the boats he sells are renamed. I'm not superstitious but I'll make sure and hide that penny well!

A Whaler? Where's the dual station, v-berth, head, shower, hot water, dinette, open flat cockpit, oven, stove, heat, storage, sunbed, water tank, holding tank, roominess, comforts, etc.? Don't get me wrong, I like Whalers but it's totally the wrong application. You wouldn't take your skateboard mountain biking would you?

Jazz must have missed the point of the previous 49 posts... John, you forgot to mention the spiffy brown or yellow stove (assuming it's original) you got on your Tolly. And try cooking a pot roast or enjoying conjubal bliss on a Whaler. I guess it could be done, but would it be as much fun on a rainy, winter day???

Capn', :p Although I'm very very, oh yes very fond of the yellow and brown, I'm stuck with a new WHITE Magic Chef 4 burner unit. Hey Jazz, what's up? Be happy! Whalers make an OK dinghy  .
