yep Venezuela, found a nice 3bdrm 2 bath with fruit trees and 300ft canal frontage and a boat ramp in the yard for about 42K. I can take what money I have left after uncle sam slaps me about and my 400 a month DOD retirement, cause the VA says sue me< and actually live on it. otherwise the numbers just dont crunch staying here.its sad but it just is what it is. but my fiancee will like it. may even try to open a putt putt golf course.

yep actually it has more to do with my artheritis doesnt bother me as much, I can afford to live there and my honey is there. she was born in caracas her parents are from spain and she has all her family there and a decent job. even with what I have saved,what I am getting ready to sell and my USN retirement I aint gonna make it here. and I really dont see the VA getting anything more than lip service just as in the past. my champus runs out at age 65 right now and there have been proposals to end it sooner. then its medicaid. Right now I cannot obtain life or disability insurance at anything reasonable. the myth that if you serve your country, and become disabled as a result of that service, your retirement covers free medical and dental is just that, a myth. it dont happen anymore. it used to but no more and I signed up in 87 under a rehub. not that the dumbo's have done any better. so the VA is currently underfunded, the severly wounded estimate in the current fiasco on terror is about 150K by 08. with no end in sight. ya think the funding will be there in 2010? so yep I am crunching numbers and trying to figgure out where I can buy a house in an area with constant temps and no radical barometric changes and live on what I make without tapping my savings. I keep thinking on south Fl but if I have to learn spanish anyway I may as well go were the gas is cheap.

will be easier just to use my passport at the port of entry. where I made the money is irrelevant. my cash will stay here

. but here I cannot afford to live unless I trust that SS and medicaid may actually exist in 20 years. I am down to about 25 hours a week working. that and the area I am looking at is not subject to hurricanes or tornadoes. temps at night in the mid seventies, daytime highs in the mid eighties year yound, daylight shifts about 40 min a year.no daylight savings time. more holidays than I can count. I think they actually work 2 weeks a year

. but property cost and taxes are eating up my savings, if I sit here they will be eaten by age 65. it may be that I work here when its warm and bail out in october. a true snowbird.

Kool deal. Where ever you go I'm sure the community will gain an intellectual personality. Very sad when you have to move to a different country just to keep your head above water. How do you deal with the Latino wimmins temper & jealousy?

I used to have a girlfriend that was from Colombia, but she was too jealous & clingy.... She had some really, really, really goood things about her though

In retrospect, I shoulda given her more time, but I didn't..... She was a good wimmin

I do think of her time to time... Bogota is too far from agua..... Where you made your money is irrelevant, or where you spend it for that matter.... Cheney made it offshore, & it is still in the Caymans.... It's yours, spend it where you will while it is still worth sumptin'

GQ I hope to actually set up a technical training center in the high school in Rio Chico VE. I have some other friends with welding instructer certs and some with computer science degrees that will assist. but I have seen to many of the older folks that are disabled and on a fixed income that had to dispose of everything to obtain aid. my taxes on this property have gone from 500 a year or so to 3800 a year and are going up again next year.my general liability,and so far I have never had a claim, went from 1100 a year in 2000 to 4700 a year in o5 and its looking like 5000 to renew it this year. the price of my weekly gas has gone from about 35 dollars a week for both the truck and the workboat to almost 100 a week. I have not raised my billing rate in almost 7 years. I have spent over a year hunting for an area with moderate weather and work that is affordable. I have come to the conclusion its all gone. so its not a political thing its a financial thing, I am looking fwd to new experiences, I am trying to get a hook up with yamaha in south america or volvo penta. but I have been crunching numbers for 2 years and they are always coming up red in 20 years or so based on the cost of living in the past VS my expected pay in the future. my industry is no longer fun here, people stay mad and its not my fault. boating has gotten very expensive, thats not my fault. the amount of shade tree rip off techs has tripled. at any given day I am at least 3 weeks behind sometimes 6 weeks, there is nothing I can do about it. so the rusty bolt bob and his can of kylon gets it cause he works from his van. he does more damage than good. now the customer has paid once,the damage is worse and I get to hit him with a big bill. now he is mad at me. the fun is gone so its time to move along. I have had my own business doing this since 94, I have done it for better than 20 years. but I have also done a lot of other things as well. all with the same passion I fix boats with. but they have DSL and broadband there so when I am not posting in the repair areas I can stir the cellar
