Set the picture quality to high and post a pic of the coil, distributor and wiring all in place and connected. A high quality photo we can zoom in on is better than attempting a fuzzy close up of arbitrary wiringIphone 10. if i try to get the coil and the wires in the pic it to far away to see anything.
you missed / did not comprehend what I stated. your ignition system was replaced with the delco voyager. your motor originally had a points type distributor. that is the reason for the heat-shrink butt splices.Iphone 10. if i try to get the coil and the wires in the pic it to far away to see anything. why would they put heat shrink on a wire for no reason.
now i understand. lol sometimes it takes me a minute.you missed / did not comprehend what I stated. your ignition system was replaced with the delco voyager. your motor originally had a points type distributor. that is the reason for the heat-shrink butt splices.
regarding your iPhone, if you upgraded to IOS 11.2, you get blurry pics. however a dirty camera lens is also a possibility.
that will be hard to do right all the wire has been stripped off the motor and waiting for the new wire harness. if you look back at previous post you will see the pictures i took of the original wiring.Set the picture quality to high and post a pic of the coil, distributor and wiring all in place and connected. If this statement is true how do you know the wiring in the pictures you posted recently are from the distributor/coil?that will be hard to do right all the wire has been stripped off the motor and waiting for the new wire harness. if you look back at previous post you will see the pictures i took of the original wiring.
Full list of what each colour is for is in post #36....Confused on the rest.
1. because the wires are still connected to the coilIf this statement is true how do you know the wiring in the pictures you posted recently are from the distributor/coil?
The picture you posted early in the thread of the engine with wiring intact was very grainy, could not see much/anything really. Kinda weird you're asking for wiring advice without a baseline/reference considering what was in place was not factory wiring.
Also strange to be asking what the colored wires in the harness go to when you post a picture of the wiring diagram with wires/colors indicating what said wires are for. Only response to that question is to reference the picture you posted, no other way to describe it for you
1. Now you are contradicting yourself as in post #65 you said all wiring is stripped from the motor and the terrible photo you posted early on does not show the ignition wiring.1. because the wires are still connected to the coil
2. the only reason I asked about wire colors is because, the old boat harness has a white with purple wire at is not in the new wire harness.
i dont know how im contradicting myself. all the wires were taken off the motor. We took the coil of the engine and left the wires connected to it.1. Now you are contradicting yourself as in post #65 you said all wiring is stripped from the motor and the terrible photo you posted early on does not show the ignition wiring.
2. Wht/pur is not a wire color that is common/NMMA consistent for boat builders. WAG would say it is/was used for the trim gauge. You should have traced the wire(s) prior to removal.
With this latest photo we are getting closer however you still leave some of the wiring out of the picture an have left the wire loom on so we can't see exactly what/where the wires go. Keep in mind we are trying to help you but can only give advice on what you tell/show us. We are not present at your boat nor can we read minds. You need to be clear in what you tell/show us because the wiring you show/describe is not factory therefore we need as much proper info from you to determine your issue(s)
the 2 pictures i posted yesterday is referencing the boat side of the wire harness. not engine side. That white isn't white, it's gray... And it for the tacho.

thanks Chris. according to this wire diagram the purple wire is running power to all the gauges correct?Sounds like you need the instrument wiring diagram too... (you may not have a trim gauge or an alarm, ignore them)

White/Purple isn't a Merc colour, BIA or pre-BIA... Could be the PO just used whatever he found.
Oh, one thing, for the 20A fuse, use a mini-blade and holder, not the 3AG glass fuse everybody seems to like... (they corrode).
Chris.......
Yes, purple is the ignitionthanks Chris. according to this wire diagram the purple wire is running power to all the gauges correct?
