I have a "new to me" '98 Tracker with a 90ELPTO. realized today that i have no warning horn (scary thought). Its has a console dash ignition key switch with a separate throttle shift arm so theres no control box with the horn in it. The ignition key switch does not have a horn built into it...so like I said, no warning horn. I have found the purple and tan leads under the dash that would normally connect to the horn so here is my question; do I have to buy the exact mercury part/horn and or new key switch with a horn built in (like the service manual illustrates)...or can I just use any kind of horn that I can find that has 2 connections. My thought is that if the temp sensor opens the circuit and sends juice to the horn then it really doesnt matter what the horn is as long as it will accept the 2 leads and I can mount it in a way where it won't get wet and or damaged...and of course it's loud enough to hear or not so loud that i jump out of the boat haha..any thoughts?
