If I walked into a mom and pop paint shop and wanted this color in PPG Concept, How would I go about getting the right color code?

Pastel sky blue or pastel light blue.

Re: What color is this?

That's not paint, it's GELCOAT, so there may not be a paint code for it.......

My only suggestion would be to print a pix of it on high resolution, confirm it's the color you want and have them color match it. Anyone that works w/ paint regularly should be able to come close. Then re-tint as needed. It'd use a light or white tint base (instead of a dark tint base) and should be retintable.

Other choice is to take the printed pix to a full line paint store & find a color that's similar, and have them match that sample 1st, then re-tint as needed.........

I need to come up with a specific car make/model/number for the pastel blue I want don't I? The paint dealer is gonna give me some good deals but it looks like I need to order the specific color since he doesn't mix.

When was the last time you saw a FACTORY pastel baby/sky/light blue car/truck/SUV? I can't think of a single one, ESP not in that particular baby blue..................

Look thru a factory PPG color book. Paint suppliers still have color sample sets available don't they? Find a similar color & GO w/ it.......

Or find a paint supplier that does tint.

Know anyone with a body shop? Take it by there - they have books with color chips that you can hold against your color and match it. Or many of the paint suppliers have a camera that they hold against the paint and a computer spits out a formula for a color. The body shop may even mix and sell you a small amount of paint. There are too many shades and variations of colors to try and guess what you have. It may look exact until you put it next to the old paint.

Re: What color is this?

Since the thread is about color matching, I guess I can ask the question. If I am going to use Gelcoat on my boat, am I limitied to just basic shades of colors? Such as Light blue, dark blue, light green, dark green, etc., or is it possible to get custom colors also in Gelcoats, similar to Candy Apple blue, or green or red? I thought that if I wanted to come up with a really great custom type color scheme on my boat I would have to use actual "paint"

There is also a Toyota Camry color that is real close to that shade...don't remember the exact year, but within the last 3-4...

Cool!..make sure you use a surface cleaner before you sand for the dplf, and between primer and paint

DX330 (acryliclean) or DX440 (Ditzo) work good.
