I was going to say, you don't have to really even get the motor completely out of the boat. If you can lift it and move it forward enough to remove the bell housing you are good.

Hi Rad, thanks for the comment. It actually was pretty difficul
t to get out because it's a cruiser and it sits pretty high, so I had to do two different lift stages with a forklift. I lifted it from the engine compartment to the deck area, then from the deck area out. had to turn the motor to get it through the hatch. But I did get it out.

I started doing what you were talking about by turning and doing it in the boat, bc I was having trouble getting the engine out.. But it seemed really dangerous, so I continued to pull it completely out. Should I put a remote oil drain kit on this? While it out

Bummer on the damage. And that you had to dang near use a crane to get to it. Sounds like you'll have it whooped after today though.

glad you got it out and done. If you wind up relocating your oil filter let us know what you use.

Not done yet. The part just came in today. I got the new coupler on , torque everything to specs tuned my engine, changed the oil and it's ready to go in. Only thing I have left to do is put the gimbal bearing in before I put the engine in tomorrow. Gimbal bearing is driving in crooked now! Ugh, this all started from a gimbal bearing and it's still messing with me. I'm going to install the slots out and next time just replace the bearing

The oil filter, is actually already easy to get to. I was wanting to relocate the plug. Don't they make a kit for that?

Yeah, I am going to go for the fumoto valve, I just have to find the right size
Why? You don't need a valve! With a Fumoto valve you have to reach down under the engine to turn it. With the kits, there is no need.

Ayuh,.... A 1/2"-20 fittin' for the oil pan, a hose, 'n a capped fittin' for the other end,.... No valve necessary,.....

Thanks for the reply Bondo. This engine is a 97. I thought I came across an old post where Don said that, that year went to metric?

That confirms our suspicions that the second install of the bearing damaged the coupler. Your going to have to find the correct tool to reinstall the bearing or wait untill the engine is out to use your tool.

"You can unbolt the fwd motor mounts right from the stringer, so as not to disturb the alignment you already have."

Anytime a motor is removed, alignment must be checked. While its out, clean/loosen oil the mounting nuts just incase they need a slight adjustment

Update.. I got the coupler installed ando the engine back in Saturday. Took it out to the water this morning. Everything ran great, except I had a little slack in my throttle cables causing my set idle to change after i went into neutral making my RPMs too run High (1000). Which in turn made me slam into gear a few times because the wind was really high and I was getting pushed against shore . I didn't realize I had that slop. Hopefully that didn't screw anything up, it's a brand new Drive. Everything went great once I adjusted it.

Brand new drive is pretty robust. Unlikely that anything is damaged or you'd probably already know it.

Ayuh,..... Set the throttle cable so that it's pushin' slightly against the carb's idle adjustment screw,....
