Re: What do you consider as 'Rich'?

I acted as though I was rich going from port to port with the wealthy bossmans luxury sportfishing machine.....and getting paid! Ate well and dressed well with a perpetual smile on my face.

After spending my last dime on fighting cancer, I now know what rich is. ;)

ME.....I'm back....I'm here.....

Everyday above ground is a rich day! :D

That's fantastic:D Really great to hear!!!
Now if you could just bottle that prop wash, and come up with the right marketing...

Re: What do you consider as 'Rich'?

We hear a lot about Rich because the politicians and the media know that it gets attention (just like this thread) and they can use it to excite the voting public. Our president says rich is anyone who makes $250,000.00 or more per year. Well maybe he has upped this to $1 million recently. It is an overused work but I think "relative" plays a part in this debate. When I was a kid anyone who could buy Lee dungarees was rich. One pair of Sears jeans ever two years - maybe - was a sign of the middle class. Hand-me-downs and bib overalls were more the flavor for the poor. So sometimes it gets in my craw when today's poverty level families suffer because they have to lower the calling time for their children's cell phone.

"the rich" is usually an unsolicited opinion of other people and its a form of envy or resentment.

What ( or who) I consider the rich, in economics, its none of my business .

It went without saying those that have a note, brag on my friend, brag on LOL.

Let me get this straight: You have a household income of over 250K and you feel "average at best" ??

Yes, where I live average and in my industry amongst my colleagues, below average. I'm make 30% of what the next guy up makes.

OK, you just need to hang out with some different people, then you'll feel rich! :D :D
I guess it's all just relative, really.
Here's some stats on Maple Grove:
According to a 2007 estimate, the median income for a household in the city was $76,111, and the median income for a family was $89,966. Males had a median income of $52,187 versus $37,021 for females. The per capita income for the city was $30,544. About 0.8% of families and 1.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.7% of those under age 18 and 2.9% of those age 65 or over.

Re: What do you consider as 'Rich'?

Rich is being free. Free from starvation, free from sleeping outside in the cold, free from treatable diseases, free from repression.

Having been in countries where whole families worked together from about age six and up scrapping rusted old hulks of ships with nothing but a few hand tools for a few dollars a week. Seeing acres and acres around a city with families living in huts made from a few old pallets and some corrugated tin for roofing can give one a whole new outlook on life. I figured a long time ago that I already lived better than 98% of the people in the rest of the world. Why bust my a** to live better than 99%. About twenty years ago my wife was sent to Haiti to try and teach the supervisors in an assembly plant her company had there the meaning of quality control. After ten days there she came back and said she will never complain about not having something ever again and finally realized what I had been telling her.

I just had a similar conversation with my wife who teaches Junior High kids here. She talked about "poor families" and I told her that cars, a/c, cable, cell phones,...etc.. do not equal "poor". Iraq, Kuwait, Bosnia, even Korea, I can tell you what poor looks like.

I have traveled 26 countries and all 50 states. have big boats and porsche cars, more money in the bank than I will never spend. I am the poorest person that I know. My wife of 52 years is about to die. I would give everything that I own to see her live. I don't know what rich is.

Thanks, veritas honus. :)

I gave up on the prop wash...now working on a way to fill a propeller with nitrogen to maintain a consistant diameter and pitch.

This is a good question with many good answers! I think everyone is right in their own way.

Those are a bit dated but Maple Grove is loosley comprised of two areas, old and newer. I live in the newer area but there is no breakout amongst the two. Every one of my neigbors is a business owner, executive, lawyer, local celebrity etc. There are a some IT types and an engineer or two as well. Every parent of my kid's friends in the area are in the same boat. Like I said we are average where we live but are between 10 -20 years younger than most of them. There are a lot of 45-50 year olds with kids under 10. In my industry even mediocre salary package equates to better than average amongst other industries. The difference between my earnings and the top earners is astronomical. I am on the edge of breaking into the real money. It takes a lot of hard work, traveling and time away from the family which I haven't been willing to do but that will need to change soon (the traveling not the work). I suppose my point and the answer to your point above is I don't know or socialize with anyone not like the above just out of happenstance. That is "average" in my head since it is all I know.

Not bragging, just saying... ;)

No, actually you are bragging...or at least trying to. Unfortunately, the high emphasis you are putting on your stuff doesn't carry much weight relative to the general scope of this thread.
....just saying.;)
