Not being poor. I've been poor (dirt poor) and did not care much fpr it.
In my opinion, success and rich are two different things.
For me, to be rich is to be able to afford everything I need, and MOST of the things I want. There is a difference between needs and wants.
To be successful is to have family and friends that love and respect you. To have good health. To have support when you are at your darkest hour. These are just a few of the measures.
I have a friend that is the richest man I know.
He has basic cable tv, no cell phone, a $350 20 year old pickup (needed a motor) he's had for 15 years.
One car family.
A small boat he restored and rebuilt the motor.
Built his own home...mostly by himself (paid for).
He just got cable internet and a computer so his son can be on the same level at school.
His favorite vacation is to motor up the back river and camp.
The best thing of all...he wants for nothing!
He has his family, house, job and his hobbies.
He's not an under-achiever...he's content with what he has!
I consider him rich!
Being rich is having enough money that it works for you instead of you working for it. (Being happy is something entirely different)
Great responses. So what if you had to put a number to it? Does $250,000 per year regardless of other circumstances, geography, net worth or lack of it make the cut? Maybe the number is 100k/year with a 100k in 401k, or maybe 500k/year with no 401k.
It depends in your expectations in life. We live on a huge planet. Some are content to live in a small house in a small town and don?t care what?s around the bend of the river. Then there are others that want to experience life to the fullest. They want nice cars, to be able to travel around the world, eat at the finest restaurants and to experience life has to offer.
The amount of money this takes depends on you wants and location. Locally, the mean household income is $118,668 with a per capita income of $43,133. The median house or condo value of $452K and a mean average detached home values of $ 569,337.
How far do you think $100K a year gets you around here? Not much left for exploring around the bend of the river I?m afraid.
We are in the 250k + level and last year and this year lived on 40k of that but saved the rest that didn't go to taxes. We certainly don't feel rich maybe average at best and in my industry I'm about the lowest guy on the totem pole albeit one of the youngest.
I feel rich because I just bought a 2004 Caddy
I love seeing people who buy new cars, and always have a car payment. We haven't had a car payment in 13 years!
Fuzzy Dice? Wheel spinners? Hitch for the boat?![]()
