hello every one i took my boat out last Sunday i have a 1996 23.5 Larson Hampton with a 5.7 mercruser i know-this after running at 30 mph my temperature was a bit hi in the gauge show running at normal speed at 180f when i give it some speed its running at 190f some times a bit higher if i slow down it go back to normal so i think can some one tell me what is the normal running temp
If this is a raw water cooled engine with a 160? thermostat as it should have, then you have a problem some where. How old is the impeller? What drive do you have? Is it raw water cooled or do you have closed cooling? Do you boat in salt or fresh water?[/QUOTE
thanks for the quick replay i have a alpha one salt water i don't know what is the impeller o where is is![]()

Then just ask him about what he has done to the boat maintenance wise while he owned it. He probably won't mind sharing once he finds you want to get it fixed up.
Sitting for 3 years, you do need to pull the drive, look at things, and replace the impeller and check things out before you go out again.
The question now is.... are you capable, (and ready) to begin tackling all the required maintenance items, or do you plan on taking the boat to a shop for the work? (I guess we answered the original question of this thread, and it seems obvious that this little gem needs some TLC!).
so where do i need to start
hello guys i have some updates i install the new gaskets and new impeller also i find out the engine did not had a thermostat so i put a new one after i put everything together i test the lower unit by turning the engine on and running water now i have a small Question is it normal if water comes out from the areas you see in the pic i get small amount of water sprinkle out of the back and on the joint around is this normal o somthing is wrong
there is a small hole there
Check the drive lube for water intrusion and the boat for water coming in. Other than that you should be good.
