Re: What is the next size up for my engine's High speed O's?
Oh great one where do I start.
My boat only goes 4800rpm using a 14.25 X 19 prop with only one person on it. IT's just like your Dusky and we've talked before. You swing the same prop and you get around 5800. I for some reason can't. Here is what I've done.
CHanged Spark plugs(spark on all six), coils, wires, PP, and even the stator. Checked all the magnets on the flywheel. I"ve made sure the engine is at the correct height and nOthing!:'( I have an OMC timing thingy and the timing is dead on. I have clean all my carbs(torn down and put back together as per manual). Syn and linked and after I did that....I went from 1k to 800rpm on muffs and idling out of the harbor I do around 650, so my carbs are working even better than before. I have also changed Tachs. Only thing is....I punch it and I'm missing what I need. One thing I have noticed is....if I turn the red lever on the choke solenoid and put it in "manual" ( pointing about 5pm ) I tend to get a bit more speed out of it. Since a small amount of gas is leaking straight into the engine and bypassing the carbs...the monster has more fuel to feed.
I also have checked the lines for leaks. I've put a fuel tank on, I've checked for restrictions. Basically I've checked everything and nothing. I even took it to a "wrench". He took it out for a run and told me that BRP says between 4500 and 5500 you're good to go. I didn't answer back and took my boat and left. Jerk!
My next step, I'm thinking , is to run it a little richer and see if that helps. Right now my engine gets up and goes(plains out). On my GpS, in good conditions, I'm registering 40mph, but the rpms ain't there. I don't know what else to do, so I figure....I'll try the high speed jets. IF it bogs...then I'll try something else. But I have to at least try and do it right. I don't wanna just dump fuel into the engine and cheat. Something bad might happen. Then I would have to spend more time with my wife.:^
