I "feel" rich when I realize that I had parents who taught me sound financial principles and although I have never earned more than $20K in any year, I have been able to save and invest wisely. I have a several toys, a nice, comfortable house, and 4 cars ... all paid for. I can use my boat and not worry too much about the price of gas for it.

I "AM" rich because I have a wonderful family, lots of love in my life, a meaningful (at least to me) calling on my life to help others, and most importantly, a wonderful, personal God who takes care of me.

i got some of the above too.

my son makes me feel rich. he's my only son and my only blood relative that i'm aware of. i'm adopted. and on that note, while i didn't much agree with my parents that i know (and they were good parents with my best interests in mind), they did teach me what's right and wrong and gave me morels. not necessarily like they'd have liked, but it did rub off and i'm a better man because of their teachings.

i'm also rich in that i'm self employed. ain't nothing i hate much more than being a yes man to the establishment. being self employed, i don't have to (within reason).

can't forget boating in feeling rich. imho, ya (i) just can't feel any more rich than when i'm out on my boat late at night. i'm near the only one on the my local 2k sq. acre watering hole. i'm alone, with peace and quite, waves lapping at my hull, the night sky filling my mind with the wonders of being alive. imho, that's really feeling rich....

The tools and ability to fix all my toys.a loving wife and fantasic friends.Being able to go to store and pick up some steaks {all my teeth} and have a great barbeque with wife and friends....Not oweing anyone...doing as I please or what wiffee allows lol's...Sharing some of my knowledge here at Iboats with a great bunch of people

That's a blessing in itself... I just had 18 teeth pulled with all to be replaced by implants eventually. Let me tell you first hand this is probably the most pain I've ever endured in my entire life. Even the accident that caused the problem in the first place was not as bad as this. I don't take drugs other then off the shelf Aspirin (excedrin and the likes). I can't because I care for my 85 year old mother and can't risk not being 100% for her sake. I had to refuse the OxyContin that was prescibed and just bear with it. It's been two weeks and I'm still not 100% yet but it's getting better and every day I'm thankful for the small amounts of improvement and the promise that the future holds.. A really good steak is in my future.

The only time I ever really feel "rich" is when I'm out fishing in the summer under this bridge on a weekday, watching everyone else drive over the bridge to work. (basically getting 3 months off per year)

All of the other stuff like a house, boat, good family, a loving wife, a few good friends, still being alive and having never been to jail, etc etc etc, just makes me feel loved/lucky.

I can't go to the store and buy whatever I want. I worry about how much gas costs. I can't head out in the boat every weekend. I have to sell something if I want something, as far as toys go. But, we have a roof and food and I have a good job that I enjoy. I have absolutely no right to complain about anything in life really, and you'll never hear me complain about "not being rich" or "richer".

sippin coffee on my porch in the morning makes me feel like a million bucks,I do not have a dime in my pocket but just sitting there listening to the birds and watching the sun come up...Wow..Almost a good a feeling as when i am out on the water...

JB, a timely thread and very well said. The humbleness of a 76 year old man brought to tears by his gratefulness just puts a lump in my own throat, as it should.

I spent the first few years of my career as a firefighter working on my days off at a local funeral home assisting the funeral director with the processionals. Many years later death struck someone very close to me, who was dirt poor in earthly wealth, but vastly rich in character and love for friends and family. Then it clicked. I remembered those many processionals and a thought occurred to me. There is an old saying that, ?no one ever saw a Wells Fargo truck following a hearse.? While that is true usually the most immediate thing following a hearse is the family cars. I noted that the folks who were well known for earthly wealth usually had the smallest graveside services. Yet, the poorest of poor would have masses of folks who took off work for the day to pay tribute to the deceased. Coincidence? I think not.

Based on my observations I suggest: A person who sets their priorities and values in life on the loved ones in their life could have their evening funeral visitation at 8 pm on Super Bowl Sunday and still have a packed house with a line out the door, into the cold rain.

My daughter who has her first job ever...
Called me last night and asked me what I wanted for Christmas, told her nothing except to see her and she works to hard to spend her limited funds on me. She said she had bought me something already and thinks I will love it.
How can I not? I am rich beyond this earth. Thank God.

What makes me feel rich is the love of my wife and daughters, the time I am able to spend with my parents who are both in good health, and my job which helps me provide a roof over our heads, the food in our stomachs, and the warmth coming from the air vents.

I've had a lot of fun in life and have experienced numerous memorable moments, but what takes the cake is a hug from my 4 year old at bed time when she tells me "i love you daddy" with that cute little voice. Talk about feeling "rich"!

Feeling useless or unneeded is a big boogeyman for the retired.

That's got nothing to do with being retired. Every one wants to feel useful and needed. Being able to give and help are two things that make most people feel rich on some level.

Hum.....I feel rich when I look at my bank statement. When I'm around family and friends I fell fulfilled, although I usually end up being a little less rich in the process.

The spirit of sharing, helping, and teaching is what keeps us coming to help others with what we have learned. That spirit is what you have given.

iboats is well known as one of the most well moderated sites on the entire internet....IMHO.....That is why it keeps growing......Without your guidance our moderation team would not have the basic guidelines you layed down years ago....Without those moderation guidelines......This site would have taken a whole different direction

Being on the water, in any boat, on the lake where I spent entire summers as a kid with family & friends...and being able to head back to the camp where it all began for me at the age of 1, 55 years ago, when my father and his brother bought two adjacent lots. I realize that having this place is precious, no monetary value can be placed on it. It's something many who are far more well off financially than I dream about, and I'm thankful our families have been able to hold on to it. I met my wife at the lake, many of the best times of my life have happened here.

That's one thing....too many others to mention, but I am grateful!

Like most have said, richness has nothing to do with money.

Everyday that I get to live on Planet Earth makes me feel rich.
Thinking about the wonderful parents that I was blessed with being born to makes me feel rich.
Having a big brother who beat the s**t out of me but still loves me to death makes me feel rich.
Walking on a deserted beach on a tiny island in the Caribeean with the love of my life makes me feel rich.
Seeing the look on my grandaughters face when I walked in dressed as Santa Claus makes me feel rich.
The adoring eyes of our two rescued dogs looking up at me makes me feel rich.
Walking through the woods of my little piece of Gods green acre makes me feel rich.
Getting out of a comfy bed, making a hot pot of coffee and taking a hot shower every morning makes me feel rich.
Being able to afford a boat and enjoying all the wonders that has to offer makes me feel..........

AND...the realization that many, many people in the world do not have the riches that I have, makes me feel rich.

I only feel rich when i get my income tax check, LOL ,but i feel blessed everyday thanks to our brother J.C. Most things mentioned here in this post are blessings not riches.It is grace that makes this possible.
