What product should I use to bring my shine back?

I purchased my 1990 Chapparral 2050 last summer and would like to clean it up as much as possable. The hull had some oxidizing so I tried several compounds and had no luck. Finally I came across 3M Marine Fiberglass Restorer and Wax. I applied it to the surface with a pad then buffed it off and got a pretty good shine and brought alot of the color back. I want it to look like new though. Should I wet sand the hull then compound it or is there a different product I should use?

I used fibre glass restorer on my hull then used an Auto wax Meguiars "NXT GENERATION TECH WAX 2.0 PASTE"

It came up great :D

I recomend begining with a heavier cutting compound first. I use maguires marine oxidation remover wilth a wool bonet first. If that does not give you the shine your looking for try 1500 or 2000 wet sand. You will need to do a test area to see how much is necessary. then polish with oxidation remover. and follow up wtth a combination like the restorer and wax. I prefer to use maguires flag ship wax at the end, this is my preference and abbreviated method. I sometimes use 3m finesse and other glases insted. After 20 years of being in the boat restoring business, i slill experiment with different methods, some boats need more work than others. that is why I say to try a couple methods and see what works best on your boat.

Add to that LOTS of time and elbow grease. I polished out my Glastron and it took me three full days to do the whole hull. The good thing is that it looked like glass after I was done.

I would try doing the restorer one more time. If that doesn't work try regular 3m finishing compound. I am not a fan of the finess, had better luck with woodys restorer. Compound is sand paper and sand paper is compound. Different compounds are equal to different grit sand paper. Every boat is going to be different depending on the oxidation and how its been maintained.

This is wet sanded to 1500 then 3m compound. I can tell you wet sanding and compound does work, just got done doing my 1990 hull and this isn't even waxed yet.

After restoring countless number of boats, I can assure you that the shortcut quick fix products are short term. I can compound and polish a 20 ft boat in about 6 hours. My 38 ft Wellcraft takes me three days. It is easier to keep up after it is properly polished. Otherwise it will look the same as before you started a month later, and you question why you bothered waxing in the first place.
