While you're fixin' the trailer.

I lowered the tongue jack to the limit. Put blocking under the chines, raised the trailer back to just about level, picking the stern up off the bunks. Put the bridge span over the gunwales and strapped it to the boat with a 1600 lb tie down strap. I also secured the beam to the cleats so it wouldn't slide horizontally and tip over the jacks. Picked it up with 2 bottle jacks and rolled the trailer out from under the boat.

Welded up a broken cross member, reinforced the bow block, and rewired it.

Where there's a will, there's a way! Great job and the only way to fly if you need to do trailer repairs where you can't git-r-done while at the boat ramp.

I had to decide between sky hook and beam. Figured I had to pick about 1200 lbs, so I opted for the engineered beam.

Beam's in storage. It'll come in handy later I'm sure. I have some plans.

A+ for creativity! Also looks easy to slide the trailer back under due to no blocks under the chime.

Are those logs OSHA approved? What is the beam made of?

Blocks are red oak. Don't need approval, you ain't gonna hurt em. They'll hurt you if you drop em on your toe.

Beam is made from 2 2x4x11 msr 2100 and 1 2x8x10 msr1850 spec screwed. Engineered to carry 1500 lbs as shown with <1/2 inch deflection. Load is between 1000 and 1200.

LOL- we did something similar. Same tongue jack/stern block trick but we lifted the bow of the boat with a 2 ton engine hoist. Once the boat was "floating" above the trailer extraction was simple. Love the engineering terms for the beam- nothing like engineering when it's needed! LOL What is the load moment on the 2', 4', 6' and 8' station? LOL

Would that be the point load times the normal?

Ain't it heck when you get a bunch of burned out engineers together trying to impress each other?

Thats a good trick!
Did that when I first got the boat to adjust the bunks, stern first then the bow.

Done this for years to paint the bottom of the boat. When back on trailer paint where blocks were and beam on center, just smaller boat. Need to do it again next year will have to sand wash first. If need to work on trailer do it when boat is in the water for the year. Beats using the backhoe to lift boat up in air to block feel safer too.
