Which intake gasket type alum manifold

Going through a 4.3 that was updated to Vortec heads and Performa intake. Had to pull the motor down, even though a new motor the PO allowed water to get in, one cylinder is pitted enough to bore the engine - a crime - brand new pistons, rings, oil pump, intake, heads and he left it out with just a tarp covering the engine and not even the flame arrestor on the carburetor.

Anyway, to the point, I have to mix and match gaskets with a Vortec converted motor. Was looking at intake gaskets and they come in several materials. With an aluminum intake do I want the all silicon rubber model or the metal core type? Seems like the different expansion contraction of an alum intake on a iron block might benefit from a all silicon gasket that would stay soft and flexible, until the day it dried up and cracked.

Thanks for the thoughts!

Rick

I went with the rubberized Felpro gaskets from AutoZone just for their premium intake gasket. It is metal with great high quality rubber surfaces.
PN: MS98002T It comes with new valve cover gaskets too.

Autozone has better pricing on those than where I was looking. Felpro makes a good product.

Probably get the Sierra head gaskets here from iBoats.

get a felpro marine head gasket from your local autoparts store (Napa, AutoXXX, etc.) if you need it quick. I stay away from Sierra gaskets myself.

Thanks Scott. Not in a hurry, so it is fairly easy to find. Matched up with the proper intake gasket.

Ayuh,.... Wise choice,....

Thanks for the assistance. I didn't even know Fel-Pro made marine gaskets.

I would like this boat to still be running 20 years from now. I'm old enough, and the kids are about out of the house, that the wife and I can run this till we physically can't, especially since it gets parked indoors 100% of the time. I am REALLY excited now that this upgrade to a 4.3 and an Alpha 1 Gen2 is getting closer. Too bad I had to tear a new motor apart, but because of that I will feel very confident in it. The guy who built it appears to have used Evergreen auto gaskets. Everything else appears 100% new except the block and crank which look great with new grind, I won't be doing anything with those.

I'm having fun. Couldn't do it right without all you guy's help!
